King Charles owned several country retreats as the former Duke of Cornwall when he was the heir apparent to the throne. One of them was the Brimptsmead Estate, an Edwardian country residence originally commissioned as a private hunting lodge under the Duchy of Cornwall. In 1993, Charles sold the plush estate but cleverly retained special visitation rights to fish on the property. Now, the estate has hit the market for $5.8 million, meaning the lucky buyer could end up hanging out with royalty.

While Charles can visit the property at any time to fish, he is required to give the new owner a 24-hour notice. As reported by The Mirror, the country home is still largely managed by Duchy estate agents, who have described it as a "truly rare opportunity to own freehold land in one of the most protected and treasured landscapes in the UK." Spanning nine acres, the property features six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and multiple living spaces across 5,984 sq ft. It also includes two cottages, a granite-built party barn, and extensive garaging.

The unnamed seller has spoken high praises of Charles' former estate, calling it a "beauty and deep tranquillity" haven. Some of the current owner's upgrades include custom-made leaded windows, bronze door handles, refreshed original oak and satinwood panelling, newly installed cast iron radiators, and underfloor heating. They have also cherished the nine functional fireplaces and describe the retreat as their family's 'sanctuary', sharing, "From evening gatherings in the panelled drawing room, to quiet mornings in the turret, to watching the sun set from the Shed's balcony, Brimptsmead has been a place to live, to love, and to remember."

The retreat also includes two cottages, Bentley and Herb, which offer self-contained living spaces for guests and domestic help. Brimptsmead is tucked away in a quiet, south-facing location within Dartmoor National Park, elevated and free from public footpaths. The grounds feature well-kept lawns, mature woodland, a grassy meadow, and a sloping field that leads onto open Duchy farmland. The luxurious property is currently listed with By Design, a real estate agency. James Cooper, an estate agent with the firm, shared the estate’s rich history on Facebook. He explained that, following an interview in London by the Royal Office, the current owners were selected who have spent over a decade there. He described it as a "true country estate restored with care, set in total privacy, but still close to everything."

As for the King’s many other properties during his time as Duke of Cornwall, he also owned Highgrove House, Llwynywermod, and Tamarisk House. Established in 1337 by King Edward III to provide an independent income for his eldest son, the Duchy of Cornwall estates have since been held by the heir apparent to the throne. According to People magazine, Prince William now oversees the Duchy, using its income to support his public duties and charitable work, after assuming ownership following Charles's ascension to the throne in 2022.
