King Charles had a rather interesting experience during his ongoing state visit to Guyana, where he got the chance to explore some traditional indigenous items. While the monarch receives a lot of unique gifts during state visits, this time one particular item appeared to catch his attention. The King was presented with a traditional bow and arrow and even took a moment to mime aiming it before handing it over to an aide.

During his visit, the monarch met representatives from Guyana's nine indigenous groups at the Umana Yana, the meeting place for the National Tashaos Council. He explored all the different aspects of indigenous culture and traditions, with local representatives showcasing handmade crafts and traditional artifacts. During the gathering, he was presented with a traditional archer's bow and arrow as a gift to take back to the UK. Charles appeared keen to examine the unusual present and mimed using it. The King was clearly fascinated with the bow and arrow and even asked questions about it to the locals. He appreciated the gift, and while he did not actually try shooting an arrow, he did draw the string to understand the mechanism. The bow and arrow was not the only unusual gift Charles received during the meeting, however. A queen from the Carib tribe, Carianne Campo, also presented him with a traditional instrument, explaining, “It is used in witchcraft to summon the spirits. He shook it, and he said he should have had this at the Junkanoo and said it was marvellous.”

Charles was also shown a handcrafted maraca used in indigenous rituals. After taking it in his hands and giving it a shake, Charles reportedly joked that he wished he had it during his appearance at the Junkanoo parade in the Bahamas. Ben Bolgar, executive director of projects at the King’s foundations, shared that the site used "Dumfries House as a model” to host workshops. He continued, “The King and the President had this idea of Harmony Village, because the President was so inspired by Dumfries House.”
