King Charles’ Latest Passion Project Could Win Him Major Cool Points With George, Charlotte & Louis
King Charles teamed up with soccer icon Gareth Southgate in a move that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis may love.
King Charles may have become the coolest grandpa to George, Charlotte, and Louis after joining forces with a sporting icon that they all adore. On June 3, Buckingham Palace opened its doors to young people and youth leaders as Charles hosted his third Youth Opportunity Summit focused on improving opportunities for the next generation. What made the event even bigger was when a new partnership between the King's Trust and Sir Gareth Southgate was announced.
The former England soccer player has been supporting the King’s Trust and has also been an ambassador for more than 15 years. Southgate's latest role will focus on giving young people access to mentors, coaches, and training opportunities to help them gain confidence and prepare for the world of work.
It is no surprise that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are big-time soccer fans, and the news may be particularly exciting for them. Prince William surely passed down his special interest to his children, as George joined his father at the Euro 2024 final to support England. In fact, all the royal children are involved in William’s match-day rituals. The Prince of Wales revealed to The Sun, “If we’re not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly, and I put the children in different positions, hoping that’s going to change our luck.”
Moreover, Princess Kate recently revealed she let the children stay up past bedtime to watch Aston Villa in a Europa League semifinal. Meanwhile, William caught the match live from the stadium in Istanbul and could be seen participating in wild celebrations as the team won their first major European Cup in 40 years.
As the FIFA World Cup 2026 nears, there have been speculations that William and George might take their first trip together to the U.S. Royal expert Christopher Andersen told Fox News, “This would also mark the first time the Wales children have ever set foot on American soil.” Given William’s role as president of England's Football Association, a joint trip with his son wouldn't be surprising. However, strict royal protocol could throw a wrench in those plans: to protect the line of succession, two direct heirs to the throne are technically forbidden from flying together.
Despite the rumors, there has been no confirmation from the royal family regarding the visit. Kensington Palace issued a statement to the publication saying, “There are currently no public plans for a trip to the U.S. Hoping for a great performance from England, though!” A solid performance from the England team might just change the course of things.
