King Charles Is Facing Friction With One Royal Family Member ― And It’s Not Prince Harry

While King Charles continues to carry out his royal commitments, his personal life remains troubled by an alleged feud with a royal family member.

King Charles has been displaying high spirits when it comes to royal engagements. Yesterday, the monarch was captured making a dramatic entry in a Doctor Who-inspired TARDIS at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. A day before, he was caught joking with visitors and schoolchildren while attending the inaugural RHS Sandringham Flower Show in Norfolk. Although Charles has appeared upbeat during recent public engagements, his private family dynamics remain far more complicated, due to the alleged feud between his two sons. While Prince Harry and Prince William are widely believed to remain estranged, a royal biographer has now claimed that the King is also facing growing friction with his heir.

"The problem with William is that he thinks he knows best," royal biographer Hugo Vickers told Page Six. Agreeing with Vickers, royal author Robert Jobson stated: "There have been differences of opinion and a few problems a couple of years back. William has to rise above it all if he’s going to be king, and both he and Charles know they have to work together. There’s a lot of decisions that Charles will make that will affect William." Even so, Jobson argued that the father and son remain united when it comes to protecting the image of the monarchy.

Jobson further asserted that the future king has been instrumental in pushing his ideas about dealing with his younger brother, Prince Harry, when it came to a royal reunion. "William understands he and his brother have different agendas and they have a different relationship with Charles," Jobson stated, emphasizing that William views himself on a "higher plane".

Meanwhile, in his biography, William and Catherine: The Monarchy's New Era: The Inside Story, royal expert Russell Meyers pointed out that William and Charles' bond has strengthened in recent years due to the Sussexes' departure from the UK and the scandal surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Meyers stated that a source told him that "While [The King] loves both his sons equally, his relationship with the Prince of Wales is something that has strengthened over the period of difficulty experienced by the family as external battles have occurred." Then, on the Andrew-Epstein scandal, reports also widely suggested that it was William who strongly pushed his father to strip his disgraced uncle of his titles after the controversy broke out.

Although King Charles might have extended the olive branch to the Sussexes this month with an emotional meeting at Highgrove, Jobson insisted that the brothers might continue to share a broken relationship due to William's attitude. “I’m sure [William] is not in any way going to reconcile with Harry, he’s made his position pretty clear…they have different paths,” Jobson said. On the other hand, as per Vickers, William's alleged tendency to believe he knows best may actually work in his favor as King. “We should give him a chance.  He might make a super king," he highlighted.
