King Charles and Queen Camilla Have A Secret Playbook for Dealing With Unexpected Royal Tour Moments
Charles was unexpectedly caught in a heavy downpour, and Camilla had the perfect reaction.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were captured sharing crackling chemistry during the last leg of the Caribbean tour in Antigua and Barbuda. The media dubbed Camilla's reaction to leaving Charles on stage in the middle of an unexpected heavy downpour without an umbrella rude, but people close to the couple said it was all part of healthy optics.

"Even as the heavens opened, you'll have seen The Queen having a little fond smile underneath her own umbrella...and [The King] was determined to carry on with the parade," a senior royal aide told HELLO! "That was another lovely thing - to hear the huge cheers of the stadium when he kept plugging on through," the aide added. Restricted by the Antigua and Barbuda national anthem, Charles initially expressed frustration at not having an umbrella but later joked about "growing watercress" on his wet trousers after the event.
At a subsequent Commonwealth leaders' dinner, he humorously noted his role as Head of the Commonwealth, indicating that he provides an umbrella for everyone. "Because all tropical storms can pass in an instant, as indeed that one did, and it's the good humor that gets them both through it," the aide highlighted. Their Majesties laughing off the whole awkward situation has now become a memorable part of their tour.

"I know at the end of each day, and sometimes at the end of each engagement, they have a good laugh together about where things have gone. It may have gone a bit wonky, but fundamentally underpinning it is that strength of their relationship and their determination to keep cracking on despite age and circumstance," the aide explained.
He then listed out the three secrets from Their Majesties tour playbook, which has them going, "I think the secret for both of them...is firstly stamina, because they are intense visits; secondly stoicism because not everything goes right, but it's how you deal with them in the moment that matters; and finally a sense of humor."

Another senior aide recounted the Queen's reaction to the sudden downpour, noting her laughter as she remarked, "I don't think I've ever been so wet in my life." He also recalled the King joking that it might be the last time he ever wore the suit.
