Prince William and Princess Kate are ending the year on familiar ground, and fans would not have it any other way. On December 18, the Prince and Princess of Wales released their 2025 Christmas card photo, continuing a tradition that has become a part of the royal calendar. The loved-up image shows the couple posing warmly with their three children: Prince George. Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Taken earlier this year, the picture was shared on the couple’s official Instagram accounts, with the family of five seated closely together in a field of daffodils. After a difficult 2024 marked by Kate’s cancer diagnosis, the recently released photograph feels especially personal.

The portrait was captured in April 2025 by Josh Shinner, a longtime collaborator of the Wales family. In the frame, William and Louis are seen wearing matching green sweaters with blue jeans, while Charlotte leans gently against her father in a green Fair Isle knit and scarf. Finally, Kate is pictured wrapping her arm around George, completing the affectionate composition. The couple shared the moment on their social media with a simple message: “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas,” alongside crediting Shinner for capturing the portrait. Shortly after it went public, Shinner responded in his Instagram Stories by writing, "Very proud to have shot the Christmas portrait for the @princeandprincessofwales."

Interestingly, the Christmas card photo appears familiar to many, and for a good reason. It comes from the same outdoor shoot that produced several family visuals of the Waleses shared throughout the year, including Louis’s seventh birthday portrait in April and George’s twelfth birthday picture in July. The session also delivered the Father’s Day images released in June, showcasing William laughing heartily with his kids. Notably, Kate did not appear in those earlier releases, making her presence here all the more resonant. Last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales took a different approach to their holiday greeting.

Instead of posing for a new portrait, the couple released a still from a video shared months earlier announcing that Kate had completed chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. In early 2025 she confirmed in a personal statement that she was in remission. The newly released photo comes just two weeks after King Charles and Queen Camilla unveiled their Christmas card on December 6. With that, the holiday season has already begun for the royal family, with several members also having attended the monarch’s pre-Christmas lunch, including the Wales family.

After missing the occasion last year, William and Kate attended the gathering on December 16 with their kids. The Prince of Wales was seen driving into Buckingham Palace with his wife seated beside him and the children in the back. Charlotte and Kate were spotted in matching hairstyles and bows, perfectly capturing the festive cheer. After this, the family is expected to step out again on Christmas Day at Sandringham, continuing the tradition of walking to church before greeting well-wishers. This tradition has become a cherished part of the royal family’s festive calendar.
