Is Kate Middleton’s Sudden Workload Spike a Direct Response to the Sussexes' Return?
Kate Middleton has suddenly taken on an increased number of engagements, leading to doubts over whether her estranged relatives' comeback is the cause.
On Wednesday, Kate Middleton visited a volunteer-led community transport organization, interestingly named West Sussex Minibus, drawing attention for more than just her impeccable fashion choices and the picture-perfect highlights that came of the outing. This appearance marked her second consecutive engagement of the week, after travelling to Leeds with Prince William on Tuesday. While royal fans can never get enough of the beloved future queen, the sudden ramp-up in her busy schedule hasn't gone unnoticed, much like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK last month.
When it comes to the monarchy, the narrative always writes itself more like a pantomime than a 12-minute-long monologue, and Middleton’s recent visit was no exception. She toured an organization that supports individuals struggling with public transport due to isolation, mobility issues, or financial difficulties. The Princess of Wales stepping out of a minibus wearing stiletto heels, surprising an elderly woman, laughing with senior citizens, petting dogs, and interacting with little kids—every single picture is worthy of going up on the yearly Christmas bulletin, if there is one. Every moment generated a new headline, and the fact that the visit took place in Sussex didn’t hurt either.
The Waleses have faced the ‘work-shy’ tag for years, but it now seems that the future queen has set out to erase the moniker from her legacy, which otherwise has been largely spotless. In September alone, she undertook around eight public engagements, out of which four were solo visits. She also joined William, on what was initially supposed to be his solo appearance, to launch the suicide prevention toolkit in Liverpool. The surprising spike in workload can come across as jarring, especially when it comes from someone who recorded only eleven solo engagements in the first quarter of 2026.
If one were to follow the breadcrumbs, they might lead straight to a certain Telegraph article leaking a shocking update from across the pond. And before anyone calls it out, it would certainly be naive to claim that the Sussexes’ return prompted the princess to up her game. But it also can’t be denied that the royal family was spotted going to church in the middle of their sacred summer break at Balmoral, only a few days after Harry and Markle’s unexpected comeback was announced.
Still, the pattern doesn’t make for strong evidence either. When their estranged relatives visited the UK earlier this year in July, Middleton and William already had a packed calendar with important public engagements and sporting events. However, their appearances before and after the Sussexes’ trip didn’t carry the same frequency. One can certainly argue about coincidences or the reality that royal schedules can’t be planned on a whim. Even so, it's worth remembering that the magic of royalty hasn't endured for centuries on pure luck alone.
The Sussexes are in the UK for an extended stay, and that could mean more public appearances if there is any meat to the theory. But Middleton and William do have a special international work trip ahead of themselves. They will be travelling to Mumbai, India, for a monumental Earthshot Prize awards event that is bound to get people talking.
