Harry Issued a Strict Warning as He Pushes Ahead With Diana Documentary Without William’s Approval
Prince Harry's decision to air Princess Diana's 30th death anniversary could permanently sever his ties with Prince William.
For Prince William and Prince Harry, honoring their late mother, Princess Diana, has always been a deeply personal journey in their lives. But now, the Duke of Sussex may have taken things a bit too far, as he is reportedly considering a documentary on Diana's 30th death anniversary without his brother's consent. This very lapse of judgement could land him in hot water, as TV presenter Mark Dolan warns it might permanently damage their already fraught relationship, which seems to be hanging by a thread.
In an interview on Sky News with host Caleb Bond, Dolan argued that Harry's court case against Associated Newspapers is now in jeopardy owing to his questionable text messages with journalist Charlotte Griffiths. He said, "If he [Harry] loses, then he's on the hook for upwards of $10 million." Speaking about the Duke's alleged plans to air Diana's documentary, he continued, "Now we're approaching that anniversary of her [Diana's] sad death in 1997. And the bottom line is that if he [Harry] goes ahead and executive produces a documentary about his mother without William's permission, that's the end of their relationship. There will be hell to pay."
Adding to his analysis of the Sussexes' alleged methods to earn money, the TV presenter stressed, "So it's either going to be Diana or, of course, there is a Thomas Markle Sr. angle that is Meghan's father, who, let's not forget, almost died in the Philippines intensive care unit and, couldn't get hold of his daughter, was desperately calling her old number." Recently, Meghan Markle's spokesperson confirmed that she had ended her partnership with Netflix for her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Commenting on the same, Dolan argued, "Well, suddenly, maybe she'll [Markle] gain an interest in her father if there are dollars to be made," suggesting she may renew her partnership.
Similarly, various insiders have also warned Harry against claiming his late mother's legacy and risking damaging his already tense relationship with William. A friend of the Prince of Wales told The Daily Beast, "The film the brothers made for the 20th anniversary was meant to be the last word. William made that very clear at the time." They added, "If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show, effectively claiming her [Diana's] legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that's with an interview or a documentary of his own."
Behind the scenes, sources believe that the Duke's proposed Diana series was allegedly the main factor behind Netflix's decision to extend their partnership with him and Markle, which also now hangs in the balance. The reported idea that Harry has in mind not only honors Diana's humanitarian work but also the controversy surrounding her death. While her tragic passing was largely attributed to her driver, Henri Paul, being under the influence of alcohol, Harry has called it 'an insult,' insisting in his memoir, Spare, that it was caused, instead, by being relentlessly chased by paparazzi.
