Fans Tell Charles They’ve Brought Wine to Beat the Heat — and Camilla Had the Best Response (Watch)
King Charles stopped to chat with well-wishers at Royal Ascot, leading to a light-hearted moment with Queen Camilla.
Royal Ascot remains incomplete without a few funny moments, and this one involves the monarch themselves! King Charles and Queen Camilla kept up with the tradition and led the royal procession on their chariot. However, what stood out more was a light-hearted interaction with royal fans that left quite an impression, especially on the Queen.
As they made their way through Windsor Great Park, the royal couple paused to chat with crowds of well-wishers lining the route. When King Charles asked one group if they had been waiting out "there for hours," the crowd burst into laughter before replying in unison, "Yes... We have wine, though!" The hilarious comeback instantly caught Queen Camilla’s attention, who quickly quipped, "Well, that’s the answer," prompting even more laughs from the crowd. Watch the video here!
But the fan interaction was not the only funny thing that happened on the day. Charles was also seen laughing with Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall after a short conversation. As Zara approached the King, she greeted him with a curtsey before giving him a kiss on the cheek. Mike then tipped his hat as a sign of respect, but as he removed it, a small object unexpectedly fell out. The mishap quickly caught Charles' attention, and what followed was a light-hearted exchange that left the group smiling and laughing together.
As one of the most prominent fixtures in the British social calendar, Royal Ascot 2026 takes center stage for five days from June 16 to June 20. Though glamorous fashion and royal arrivals often dominate the media coverage, top-tier horse racing remains the ultimate focus. Yet, the festival has grown into something much larger than a sporting event, transforming into a premier social gathering where British royalty rub shoulders with the UK’s biggest celebrities.
Before the racing officially commences, the highlight is undoubtedly the Royal Procession, which sees the Royal Family make a grand entrance in horse-drawn carriages. This year, following close behind King Charles and Queen Camilla on Day 1, was a new addition to the family. Harriet Sperling, who recently tied the knot with Peter Phillips, marked her official Ascot debut by taking part in the traditional procession with her mother-in-law, Princess Anne.
The King and Queen also wrote a special message that will appear on the program: “We wish you a very warm welcome to Royal Ascot, which promises to deliver another spectacular week of racing. Some of the best horses from Europe, North America, and Australasia are expected to run this week, and they will be watched by viewers in close to 200 countries.”
