Expert Shares Why There's a Slim Chance Harry and Meghan Will Ever Reconcile With Their Dads
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have never had an easy relationship with their fathers. Harry is currently grappling with the challenge of reuniting with his ailing father, King Charles, who is undergoing ongoing treatment following his cancer diagnosis. His bid to have his state-funded security reinstated has made this journey difficult. Meghan, meanwhile, finds herself in a similarly fraught situation as Thomas Markle faces a serious health crisis of his own.
He recently underwent a left-leg amputation after a life-threatening scare and is said to have expressed that he does not want to die estranged from his daughter. Moved by his condition, the Sussexes reportedly reached out, but the effort was clouded by confusion. While Meghan’s team claimed she sent an email, Thomas has insisted he never received one, stating he does not have an active email address. After considerable back and forth, Meghan ultimately wrote him a letter, which was delivered through “reliable and trusted contacts.”
However, she did not visit him in the hospital, a decision that sparked strong reactions from her half-sister, Samantha Markle. Royal experts believe that the Sussexes' family tension with their father will persist in the years to come. "Meghan and her father will never reconcile," said royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams to Fox News Digital. He argued that it is still not confirmed if Meghan even sent any letter to her father.
"Her family sounds appalling. Her half-sister was behind the staged paparazzi photographs, which led to a rift with her father, who has also widely criticized her in the media. That has certainly led to a complete breakdown in their relationship," said Fitzwilliams. He dubbed the whole thing "nothing short of a mess." Talking to The Times of London, Fitzwilliams added that it is unlikely for the Sussexes to mend their 'deeply damaged' relationships with their ailing fathers
"I do not believe Meghan Markle has any genuine interest in repairing her relationship with her father," agreed Kinsey Schofield, host of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, to the outlet. He also opined that Harry's recent appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show, which saw him make a dig at President Donald Trump, did little to help his case on reconciliation with the royal family. The Prince reportedly ruined his chances, as Colbert has quite a negative reputation amongst the royals. He previously propagated infidelity rumors about Prince William and accused him of cheating on his wife, Kate Middleton, while she was undergoing cancer treatment.
Weighing in on the estrangement of the couple, royal expert Ian Pelham noted how Meghan, over the years, has been hurt by her family, making their chances of reconciliation rather slim. However, he opined that Harry might still want to keep his royal identity. "None of this aligns with someone serious about reconciliation with his family. At best, it shows a lack of judgment. Ultimately, I think Harry is seeking greater exposure in the UK because it allows him to present himself internationally as a working royal," argued Schofield. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's representative refused to comment on their family equation. "We wouldn’t comment on the Duke or Duchess’s relationship with their family," they asserted.
