Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson's association with Jeffrey Epstein dealt the final blow to the royal family's once squeaky-clean image. After scathing allegations resurfaced, King Charles acted swiftly, stripping them of their royal titles and ordering them to vacate Royal Lodge. However, according to royal expert Chris Riches, those strict measures were not enough. He pointed out that the royals quietly unveiled their new 'secret weapon' during the Christmas walk in an effort to repair the damage caused by the Yorks' scandals.

As per Riches, the 'secret weapons' are the younger generation of the royal family, aka Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In an article for the Daily Express, he brought attention to their triumphant Christmas walk at Sandringham. He penned, "William and Catherine have a real reason to be proud of their trio, as they are just as much the bright future of the monarchy as they are refreshingly natural on the world stage." While the expert acknowledged that calling the Wales children 'working royals' at this stage would be premature, he highlighted their potential to rejuvenate the monarchy's tattered image. He added, "Their sheer presence reinforces the hope of happier decades ahead on the distant horizon for the embattled royal family."

Doubling down on his stance, Riches emphasized the children's intelligence, innocence, and humane qualities, despite intense scrutiny from the public and press. He stressed, "They [George, Charlotte, and Louis] could also be the Biblical 'cleansing wave' that in time can wash clean the lingering stain of Andrew and Fergie - and erode the millstone of Jeffrey Epstein's memory that still weighs heavily on the royal family's neck." According to the royal expert, the young trio's future in the monarchy offered renewed hope to the public, particularly after widespread disappointment over the Yorks' nonchalant handling of their controversial associations.

Additionally, Riches suggested that the Wales children could not only potentially offset Mountbatten-Windsor and Ferguson's scandals, but also serve as a lesson to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. He continued, "Their innocent thrill at meeting the public, their beaming smiles and clear ethic of duty and service contrast so starkly with the desperate cash-grab image the Sussexes sadly ooze by the bucket-load in the States." He noted that while the Duke of Sussex was acting goofy on Stephen Colbert's show, George focused instead on helping the homeless alongside his father at The Passage charity.

While the Yorks grapple with the fallout from their scandals, George, Charlotte, and Louis are expected to become working royals when they reach adulthood. Concerning George, a source told Closure that Prince William and Kate Middleton have "done their level best to let George have as normal a childhood as possible." They reportedly feel their oldest is prepared for the next phase, as "They believe he's ready. You can feel a real shift happening with George… he's starting to fully grasp his place in the bigger picture, and what's wonderful is that he doesn't seem to be daunted by it."
