Donald Trump Reveals What His Mom Really Thought About Queen Elizabeth In New Interview
Many people who met Queen Elizabeth II speak of her calm presence, and Donald Trump is no exception. His recent comments on the late monarch show a perfect mix of admiration, nostalgia, and personal family memory. In a new interview, the President of the United States reflected on his long-standing relationship with the royal family, a topic he often returns to when speaking about his time in office. He also revealed that his mother deeply admired the Queen, a memory that shaped how he viewed the monarchy long before he met them.
While speaking to GB News, Trump spoke at length about Queen Elizabeth and how central she was in his home. He said his mother held the late monarch in the highest regard. "My mother was a great fan of the Queen. Any time the Queen was on,” he recalled, “she said, 'Excuse me, don't talk. We have to listen to the Queen.' And she loved the Queen and the Royal Family.” He described those moments as formative and said they left him with a lifelong respect for the royal family. Trump then reflected on the late Queen herself as well as their first personal meeting in 2018 at Windsor Castle.
He remembered the encounter as gentle, respectful, and far more personal than he had expected. Subsequently, he also noted that she was a “spectacular woman” and believed they had “good chemistry.” What stood out to him was how long their conversations lasted. During that visit, he said they talked all night during an official state banquet and that he found her insights truly remarkable. "I sat next to the queen and we just talked all night long. She was incredible to speak to and so sharp; her mind was so sharp. It was something very special,” Trump recalled.
Trump then talked about his second state visit to the UK in September. He described the experience as “absolutely beautiful” and spoke about the welcome he received from King Charles and the wider royal family, saying they “couldn’t be nicer.” The visit included a state banquet at St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle and a tour of the historic rooms. He jokingly said, "That room with a long table. It was amazing. I've never seen a room [like that]. I got to build one of them someday.” He then also had a private moment at St. George’s Chapel and laid a wreath at the late Queen’s tomb.
However, not all accounts of Trump and the late monarch’s bond have been flattering. A friend of the Queen, horse trainer Monty Roberts, had confirmed in an interview with PEOPLE that she ‘didn’t like’ Trump. Reports have also suggested that she once described him as ‘very rude.’ A few weeks after President Trump's visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him 'very rude.' She particularly disliked the way he couldn't stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting," Craig Brown wrote in A Voyage Around the Queen. Trump, however, has denied this and insisted that he believed she enjoyed their time together.
