William Refuses to Budge as Andrew Plots a Secret Meeting With Charles: ‘He’s Not Negotiating’
Andrew's secrecy surrounding the meeting has not sat well with Prince William, who is currently calling the shots when it comes to the monarchy.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly making every effort to return to the royal family's good graces and atone for his past misgivings. Insiders claim he is pressing hard for a private sit-down with King Charles, while keeping his intentions under wraps. This lack of transparency has allegedly not gone down well with Prince William, who has urged his father not to entertain Andrew's request. It's a clear case of William calling the shots and showing he's not about to bend the rules for family, if they have disgraced the monarchy.
On his Substack, Naughty But Nice, royal columnist Rob Shuter documented his sources' accounts on William's alleged strict stance against his disgraced uncle. One said, "Andrew is refusing to tell anyone what the meeting is about. He won't brief aides, he won't loop in family — he'll only speak directly to the King." Sadly for him, there remains one major obstacle in his efforts to meet with his brother for forgiveness. They added, "William controls the room — and Andrew isn't getting in without answers. William has drawn a hard line. No transparency, no meeting."
While the Prince of Wales is allegedly hell-bent on not letting Mountbatten-Windsor return to the family, his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, appear to have a far more forgiving stance. The insider revealed, "Anne and Edward believe he [Andrew] deserves to be heard. But even they don't know what he plans to say — and that's raising eyebrows. This isn't just damage control — it's emotional triage." They continued, "There's no path back with William in charge. He's not negotiating — he's enforcing." As for the former Duke of York's alleged dicey situation, while he may be seeking forgiveness, his secrecy regarding the meeting is, according to William, not how this monarchy operates anymore.
That being said, previous reports have painted the Prince of Wales as cold-hearted, criticized by Anne and Edward for his tough stance against his uncle. Weighing in on the same, a source told the Daily Mail, "Anne has been vocal with both the King and William about Andrew's treatment, with Edward backing her to some extent. There are several arguments going on between Andrew and the King and between the King and the wider family – some of whom are convinced the King has treated his brother too harshly." In a surprising twist of events, Charles is also said to be blaming William and Queen Camilla for forcing him to strip Mountbatten-Windsor of his titles.
Against that backdrop, the insider stressed, "It doesn't fit well with the King to have to treat Andrew as harshly as he has to in the circumstances. William and Camilla take a harder line, which has caused a lot of family angst." Until recently, the monarch reportedly believed that Mountbatten-Windsor was innocent until proven guilty, but that so-called stance may have changed after his brother's infamous arrest and the mounting evidence against him in the Epstein files.
