Andrew May Be Using King Charles' Hypocrisy as a 'Trump Card', Claims Expert

The monarchy’s strategy of silence is no longer sustainable, and Charles’ own scandals may be the very thing preventing him from taking decisive action.

The Royal Family is facing a tough few weeks as public scrutiny reaches a boiling point over the continued shielding of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. According to royal author Andrew Lownie, the monarchy’s strategy of silence is no longer sustainable, and King Charles’ own past scandals may be the very thing preventing him from taking decisive action.

Writing for The Lownie Report, the Entitled author suggested that the public has reached a historic ‘tipping point’ where the age of deference has been replaced by ‘widespread contempt.’ Despite the former Duke of York’s ‘midnight flit’ out of his Grade II-listed property, Royal Lodge, Lownie argued that these surface-level punishments are far too little, too late. The most explosive element of the current crisis is the alleged hypocrisy within the Palace. The author wrote that the former Prince likely holds a significant trump card in his private negotiations with the monarch: Charles’ own history with controversial aides.

Lownie wrote, “Part of the problem is the charge of hypocrisy that Andrew is no doubt making behind closed doors.” He particularly pointed towards the monarch’s former right-hand man, Michael Fawcett, who was embroiled in a ‘cash-for-honors’ scandal. “After all Charles’s closest aide was investigated for selling honours for cash, and the police investigation into this was quietly dropped almost immediately after Queen Elizabeth II’s death,” he wrote. Lownie further argued that this precedent makes it extremely difficult for Charles to moralize. However, he also warned that the king can no longer afford to be protective of his disgraced brother.

He opined that the risk is largely ‘irrelevant’ now because if the former Prince is not properly investigated for his crimes, then the “monarchy may not survive.” The Palace’s refusal to launch a formal internal inquiry into Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct, Lownie bluntly argues, contrasts sharply with the treatment of other members of the family. Talking about Meghan Markle, he suggested that the Palace was quick to investigate the bullying allegations against the Duchess yet remains silent on the former Prince’s more serious allegations and ties with Jeffrey Epstein.

Lownie asserts, “To do anything else is to essentially become accessories to the crimes by continuing their shameful cover-up.” He also demands that the Palace share its extensive files with the authorities, noting, “We know…that there is an extensive dossier detailing Andrew and Fergie’s scandals going back decades. This should be immediately shared with the police and parliament." For the royal author, the ongoing scandal is not just the ghost of the past; in fact, it is actively sabotaging the future of the monarchy. He argued that Prince William’s recent diplomatic efforts in Saudi Arabia have been overshadowed by his disgraced uncle’s controversial past deeds.

The royal author highlighted how a single shouted question about Mountbatten-Windsor “defined and undermined what was a diplomatically crucial visit” for the Prince of Wales. “It’s telling that even though the UK is not an authoritarian state, Andrew was similarly protected until revelations and public anger made it impossible to ignore.” While Charles and Camilla were also heckled recently due to the Andrew-Epstein saga, Lownie suggested that the “age of deference is over and, if the royals are not careful, it may be replaced by widespread contempt.”
