She has carried the piece to several public events over the years, and its latest appearance during her May 19 outing in Belfast quickly caught fans’ attention. Queen Camilla unexpectedly got royal watchers talking during her latest outing with King Charles in Belfast on May 19. The Queen was there to celebrate Fleadh Cheoil, one of the world’s biggest Irish music and dance festivals. But it was one particular accessory that really caught people’s attention. The accessory in question was the iconic Lady Dior bag, a handbag that became synonymous with Diana.

The accessory was gifted to Princess Diana in 1995 by France’s then-first lady, Bernadette Chirac. Originally designed by Gianfranco Ferré in 1994, the handbag was first called the Chouchou before quickly becoming a major part of Diana’s signature style. Dior later renamed the bag in 1996 as a tribute to her original title, Lady Diana Spencer, turning it into one of the most recognizable fashion pieces linked to the late royal.

Princess Diana also carried the bag during her only Met Gala appearance in 1996. For the event, she wore a navy Dior slip dress designed by John Galliano and matched it with the now-famous handbag. In the 2024 Hulu docuseries In Vogue: The 90s, John Galliano shared a funny memory from the fitting process behind Diana’s Met Gala look. The designer recalled bringing sketches to Kensington Palace and trying to convince her to wear pink, but Diana quickly shut the idea down, saying, “No, not pink!”

This was also not the first time Camilla has been spotted carrying the Lady Dior. Over the past few years, the Queen has brought different versions of the accessory to several major royal events.
