5 Photos of Prince William as He Goes Through Every Emotion During Surprise Solo Outing
William Unfiltered
Prince William had quite the day during his surprise outing in Somerset. The Prince of Wales stepped out on October 6, visiting Ilminster to learn more about how local communities are preparing for wildfires, floods, and other extreme weather challenges. Arriving solo, he seemingly went through every emotion as he met with youth, locals, and volunteers. From sharing laughs with actor Ross Kemp to getting playful with children and having quieter moments with members of the community, William's visit was memorable.
All Smiles
During his visit to the launch of the National Emergency Trust's 'Ready Together' toolkit, William met the CEO of the trust, Mhairi Sharp, and ambassador Ross Kemp. The trio took part in a training exercise to learn how UK communities prepare for wildfires, floods, and challenges caused by extreme weather and global warming. During the session, William seemed relaxed and was all smiles as he interacted with Kemp and the other attendees. The Prince also tried to get some spoilers from Kemp about the show, as reported by The Standard. Addressing a group of local youths, William asked, “Do you watch The Traitors?” before introducing Kemp with a quip, “Spoiler alert today… he’s here!”
Playful William
During his day out, William also seemed to take a page out of Princess Kate’s handbook. The Prince was seen high-fiving the children, one of the lighter moments of the outing. The kids from the local school were clearly excited to meet the royal, and the Prince reciprocated the same emotion. He, in his true playful self, had a fun chat session with the kids ahead of his surprise cafe visit. He certainly didn't make them feel the absence of the 'Children's Princess,' and that's an achievement not many brag about!
William Gets Emotional
During his visit to the Sweet Surprise cafe, William also met and had an emotional conversation with Tina Groves, a local business owner who had lost her home to flooding nine years ago. The cafe is well-known in Ilminster for providing employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. As William chatted with Groves, he took her hands in his, offering comforting words.
A Very Chatty Prince
William looked right at home during his Somerset outing, taking time to chat with locals. From greeting people in the community to getting hands-on with the training exercises, William seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the change of pace. In the process, he yet again reminded folks of his wife, who is known to chat up locals during her engagements, sometimes even keeping William waiting when he accompanies her.
A Serious Man
During his last stop, William looked more serious as he spoke with Chief Fire Officer Simon Young and members of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service during his visit. The Prince has previously undergone military and emergency-response training, giving him some first-hand experience of the pressure that comes with being prepared to respond in a crisis. That made this moment feel especially fitting as William got a closer look at the work of those who are often among the first to step in when communities are facing danger. For the unversed, William spent almost 5 years flying rescue missions, first as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot from 2010 to 2013, then as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance from 2015 to 2017. So he must have felt right at home!
