It has been a week since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the UK with their children for an extended stay. However, Buckingham Palace has yet to issue a public statement acknowledging their arrival, and the same goes for the Prince and Princess of Wales. Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly informed about the move just two weeks earlier. The brothers remain estranged, with their last brief conversation occurring briefly at the late Queen's funeral in 2022. While the public hopes a reunion might be on the cards, the Prince and Princess of Wales have already scheduled a packed itinerary for the coming weeks.
Kate is expected to join Prince William in Mumbai this November for the Earthshot Prize ceremony, marking their first major joint overseas trip in four years. The Princess of Wales, who underwent cancer treatment in 2024, has steadily resumed her official duties, including a successful solo trip to Italy in May for early childhood research. Her attendance at the awards would mark a significant step in her return to international engagements on behalf of the Royal Foundation. The couple was previously seen at the Earthshot event in Boston in December 2022. Their only overseas appearance together since then was at the wedding of Jordan's Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Rajwa Al Saif the following year. Royal officials are optimistic that their well-planned overseas trip and a busy schedule of domestic events will not be overshadowed by the Sussexes' return to Britain, GB News reported.
A source recently told People that the homecoming offers The Duke of Sussex the "best opportunity" to mend his long-standing rift with his brother. Meanwhile, the Waleses are adopting a measured response to this development, avoiding any impulsive reactions. "They are watching this space. It’s private—they don’t feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly," a source revealed, adding that any reconciliation "will be a slow build. There is a deep sense of betrayal."
The Sussexes have kept a low profile since arriving in the U.K. on August 26, showing no public signs of reconciliation with the royal family. However, Harry has expressed a desire for family reconciliation, stating that he wishes to end the ongoing conflicts. Despite previously hurt feelings, he has taken steps towards mending his relationship with King Charles, including a recent meeting at Highgrove House, which was their first gathering with Markle and the children in four years.
