The Non-Royal Who Could Shape William And Kate’s Future Reign, According To A Royal Author
William has hinted at his future reign as king, emphasizing that change is a priority for him.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are working on modernizing the Crown with their forward-thinking plans to implement a slimmed-down monarchy. Despite their ability to make decisions independently, a royal author suggests that a particular influential figure will be behind their future choices as king and queen.

Ingrid Seward believes that Carole Middleton will be the silent force guiding William and Kate. The royal author pointed out that the senior Middleton's humble upbringing might motivate the royal couple to adopt a more modest approach, potentially leading them to reconsider the year-round management of their extensive portfolio of royal properties. “[Will they] stay small in Forest Lodge, or go the whole hog and decide to keep Sandringham, Balmoral, and all the other smaller houses light and warm and staffed through the long winter nights? The voice of Catherine, whose mother was brought up in a council flat, in William’s ear might suggest that keeping things relatively modest is in tune with the times," she noted in her book Catherine & Diana.
Steward further pointed out that William aims to modernize the royal family by scaling back its grandeur while maintaining its traditions and meeting public expectations, Women and Home Magazine reported.

Seward suggested that the future king and queen will uphold traditions by spending Christmas at Sandringham and summer at Balmoral. But they may choose to stay at Anmer and Tam-Na-Ghar after hosting family at their main homes.
Windsor Castle has not served as a primary residence since Queen Elizabeth's reign, primarily serving as a venue for audiences and meetings. Staffing on a demand basis aligns with modern expectations and is considered more economical. Forest Lodge serves as a convenient base for the royal couple, facilitating travel to London and proximity to the Middletons' home. "Kate's got a very, very close family. I get on really well with them, and I'm very lucky that they've been so supportive," William had expressed during their 2010 engagement interview. "Mike and Carole have been really loving and caring and really fun and have been really welcoming towards me."

William has hinted at his future reign as king, emphasizing that change is a priority for him. During a discussion with actor Eugene Levy on Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler, he expressed his embrace of change, stating, "I think it's safe to say that change is on my agenda — change for good."
He emphasized the significance of royal tradition, acknowledging its importance while questioning its relevance in modern times, Express UK reported.
