Sam McAlister gives huge warning to Sarah Ferguson against ‘car crash’ TV interviews
EXCLUSIVE: A very prominent commentator seems to think that Sarah Ferguson will cash in on her fall.
AFTER Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s fall from grace, many have wondered what his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will do next.
Reports have widely circulated that the former Duchess of York - also known by her nickname, Fergie - is considering sitting down for a tell-all interview. Following intense criticism after the release of millions of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, we previously reported that an American journalist apparently offered up to $2.45 million for the chat.
However, one prominent expert has issued a new warning to Ferguson, 66, saying the prospect is a “cataclysmically bad idea.” Former TV producer turned author Sam McAlister famously secured the infamous BBC Newsnight in Buckingham Palace with journalist Emily Maitlis, 55, after months of negotiations with Andrew’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk, 61.
This was dramatized in the hit Netflix film, Scoop – where Sam was played by former Doctor Who actress Billie Piper alongside Sex Education fan favourite Gillian Anderson. She admits that any interview with Fergie might make sense financially, but it would be a huge risk to her reputation.
“If this interview has taught us anything, it is that doing an interview when you're exposed to massive risk, and you're not adept at interviews, is a cataclysmically bad idea, “ Sam exclusively told The Royal Observer. “However, if you are Sarah Ferguson and you're thinking that you need to, you know, potentially make money, or that you feel there has been some kind of injustice, or you feel if you have something, you know, big to say and you might be able to secure funds and, or indeed, a sense of injustice, perhaps you feel about the coverage, then it makes perfect human sense as to why you might say yes.”
She went even further by calling the very idea a “car crash,” but it would undoubtedly generate worldwide publicity and funds. McAlister continued: “It makes perfect sense. I mean, it's everyone would want to see it. I mean, it is proper car crash, isn't it? I mean, you can't you can't look, and you can't look away. I mean, you know, people would watch it even if they were angry while they were watching it. They might anger watch it.”
She added: “So of course, these things are a business when it comes down to it, and people. Business decisions, not upon the basis of what is the right thing to do, but what will generate publicity and money.”
It makes perfect sense - Sam McAlister
Despite the risk, however, the award-nominated executive producer thinks that Sarah Ferguson does have plans to do a major project “at some stage.” She told me: “It makes perfect sense that people would be chasing her to try and get the first exclusive conversation, or you know, perhaps she would do some kind of project where she talks about the things that she is into, or some kind of thing where she tries to kind of like show what a great human she is.
“Of course, that makes perfect business sense. But if you are Sarah Ferguson, does it make perfect human sense?” Adding: “I'm sure something will come at some stage.”
