Royal Biographer Claims Andrew Wasn’t the Only Senior Royal Linked to Jeffrey Epstein
Biographer Andrew Lownie claims another senior royal allegedly had dinner with Jeffrey Epstein in the 90s, raising fresh questions for the Palace.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s connection to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein has been immensely damaging for the monarchy. But according to a royal biographer, he might not be the only one from the Firm who had close ties with the late financier. Andrew Lownie, who has written extensively about the Royal Family and the former Duke's ties to the disgraced financier, made the shocking claim on a new episode of The Daily Beast’s The Royalist Podcast.
Talking to royal commentator and host Tom Sykes, Lownie went on to suggest that an insider reportedly told him that Duchess Sophie had dinner with Epstein back in the mid-1990s. He further suggested that those kinds of connections may have helped boost the late financier’s image and open doors for him socially. The biographer said, “Epstein had targeted several royal families. The scandals not just... the British royal family, but he saw him as someone who gave Epstein credibility, gave him access to various people, not least perhaps other members of the royal family. There are stories that perhaps other members of the royal family may have been involved with Epstein.” Lownie remarked that Sophie's alleged dinner with Epstein could mean the scandal may not end with just the former Duke. “I think for Epstein, Andrew was very, very helpful,” he added.
Lownie explained, "You know, the kudos of being able to have pictures of him sitting on the throne in Buckingham Palace or going up to Sandringham... It was a useful sort of negotiating tool with other people. You know, ‘I can arrange a shooting weekend up in Sandringham.’ And so he was... always leveraging everything.”
The royal author has made several damning claims in the updated edition of his book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, which will be out on May 21. As for the disgraced prince, all the damaging allegations and scandals surrounding him seem to have taken root. He made a permanent move to Marsh Farm after his titles were stripped and he, along with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, was evicted from the Royal Lodge by King Charles.
More recently, he was threatened by a man near his new home while walking his dogs and is said to have been left shaken by the incident. According to reports, he is demanding his old armed security detail, which was previously funded by the Palace.
