Resurfaced Video Shows King Charles Reminding Queen Camilla of a Royal Protocol
King Charles swooped in just in time, gently reminding his wife that it was time to switch from chat mode to ceremony mode.
Being a member of the royal family is no easy feat, with a strict protocol rulebook dictating when to pause, when to curtsy, and, in this case, when to stop chatting. Even seasoned senior members aren't immune, as Queen Camilla had her own awkward faux pas during the recent Commonwealth Service on March 9, when she nearly broke a royal rule. Luckily, King Charles swooped in just in time, gently reminding her it was time to switch from chat mode to ceremony mode, because time does not wait for anyone, even when you are a royal.
Lovely scenes as members of the Royal Family greet each other other at today’s Commonwealth Day service at @wabbey - quite a bit of joking amongst the ladies about whether they should kiss given the size of their hats. Princess Anne made clear she wasn’t even going to try 😂 pic.twitter.com/zn9azfeuBS

In videos shared by royal editor Rebecca English on X (formerly Twitter), Camilla, Charles, Princess Anne, Prince William, and Kate Middleton can be seen greeting each other before the service. As Camilla moves forward to greet Anne, she gets carried away, chatting with her just before the ceremony is about to commence. Charles then taps his wife's arm to remind her to skip the remaining pleasantries and take her position quickly. Acknowledging the gesture, the Queen promptly turns around and stands in position next to her husband, followed by the Prince and Princess of Wales behind them.
After royal fans noticed the Queen's minor blip, they took to X to poke fun at the wholesome situation, reminding everyone that she was just like the rest of us. A netizen remarked, "Camilla and Anne couldn't stop chatting, so Charles had to remind his wife that the event was about to start." In a similar vein, another joked, "eek, the look on Camillia's face." A royal watcher quipped, "Typical husband behaviour." As the comments poured in, a person gushed, "I love these videos."
Interestingly, Camilla's situation wasn't the only awkward moment that happened that day. In yet another adorable exchange, when Middleton moved in to give Anne a customary kiss on the cheek, the Princess Royal gently swerved to avoid bumping into Middleton's huge hat, making for a good laugh. This year, Charles, Camilla, William, Middleton, and Anne were joined by approximately 1,800 guests, with the celebration including speeches, music, poetry, and multicultural performances. The Queen had donned a red overcoat and a matching Philip Treacy hat along with a black bag. She also wore a palm leaf brooch that was once the Queen Mother's.
For those unversed, the Commonwealth is an association of 56 independent nations representing 2.7 billion people worldwide to promote cooperation, democracy, and shared values among member states. The British monarch, i.e., King Charles, serves as its head, which is why the royal family plays an integral role in its annual celebrations. Each year on the second Monday of March, senior royals attend the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey, greeting guests and highlighting the organization's unity and cultural diversity. This year's service marked the first high-profile royal outing since Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest and eventual release.
