Rare Photo of Lilibet Shows Just How Much She's Grown — and Meghan's Caption Says It All
Meghan's surprise International Women's Day post gave followers an unusually intimate peek at life in the Sussex household.
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, marked International Women's Day with something her followers don't often get to see: a rare photo of her daughter, Princess Lilibet. The four-year-old is growing up fast.
In the image, posted to Instagram, Lilibet is seen cuddled up close to her mother on a beach. Her face is partially obscured, as has become the couple's steadfast practice when sharing photos of their children, but what is unmistakable is how much she has grown.
Markle and Prince Harry have long been deliberate about shielding their two children — Lilibet and her six-year-old brother, Prince Archie — from the relentless glare of public life. But this post carried an additional, unexpected delight-- the photo credits. Markle attributed the image to none other than 'Papa Sussex.'
This is not the first time in recent weeks that Markle has offered the world a rare, affectionate glimpse of family life. Just three weeks prior, for Valentine's Day, she posted a heartfelt image of Harry wrapped around Lilibet in an embrace, accompanied by the caption, "These two + Archie = my forever Valentines." In that earlier photo, more of Lilibet's face was visible.
Both Markle and Harry have spoken at length about their commitment to protecting their children's privacy, but Harry, in particular, was long described as immovable on the subject. For years, keeping Archie and Lilibet out of the public eye was said to be non-negotiable. Rob Shuter, after Markle posted the Valentine’s Day picture, had reiterated Harry’s stand on his Substack. “Harry was very clear in the beginning—no faces, no exposure, no brand strategy around the kids,” one insider says. “He was adamant about privacy.”
That position, however, appears to have evolved as the couple settled into building their post-royal life, balancing media projects, philanthropy, and Markle's lifestyle ventures. Sources now suggest the recent family posts are not spontaneous snapshots, but part of a more measured plan. "He's evolved to align with Meghan," a longtime source explains. "He trusts her completely. If she believes this is smart for the family, he backs her 100 percent." Those close to the couple insist this does not mean full access, per Shuter. The children are still largely kept out of public view, with only brief, curated glimpses shared strictly on their own terms.
The aim, insiders say, is to maintain control of the narrative rather than leave space for speculation or paparazzi intrusion. And it is an approach, sources suggest, that Markle has not developed entirely alone. She is said to have sought informal guidance as she expands her brand presence — including, notably, from one of the most seasoned names in family image management. Several sources claim she has developed a friendly rapport with Kris Jenner, the architect behind one of the most commercially successful family brands in modern media. "Kris and Meghan are friendly; they talk," one source revealed to Shuter. "Kris has absolutely advised her on brand control and family positioning."
