Prince William Reveals One Thing He Loves That His Father King Charles Absolutely 'Hates'
Prince William opened up about the one passion he never shared with his father, King Charles, prompting a surprised reaction from the Kelce brothers.
It is no secret that Prince William is a devoted Aston Villa supporter. Bringing that same passion, he joined the New Heights podcast to discuss his lifelong love of football, his role as president of the English Football Association (FA), and his memories of attending his first match in 2000. He also spoke about his commitment to growing women's football and his hope of seeing the UK host a future FIFA World Cup. But amid the football conversation, William shared an unexpected detail about his father, King Charles, that caught the hosts as well as the listeners off guard.
Prince William revealed that his father, King Charles, does not enjoy football. During a discussion about his passion for the sport, he clarified that the monarch is not the reason for his support of Aston Villa. "Absolutely not," William said. "My father hates football." "Oh no," the Kansas City Chiefs tight end interjected while being taken aback by the revelation. Although a few relatives support different clubs, he said football was never a major part of his upbringing at home. Instead, childhood friends introduced him to his first match, while the sport's constant presence in everyday life fueled his enthusiasm. "You can't avoid the football chat. It's everywhere. Yeah. And some school friends or childhood friends of mine took me to my first game," he highlighted.
While King Charles may not share his son's enthusiasm for football, the monarch has long had a passion for another sport: skiing. Charles first took up the activity in his youth and became an avid skier, frequently visiting the Swiss resort of Klosters, a favorite winter destination for the British royal family. However, during a visit to Teesside last February, the King acknowledged that those days are now behind him, telling a Swiss well-wisher with a smile, "I think my skiing days are behind me."
Despite the King's lack of interest in football, Prince William has become one of the sport's most prominent royal advocates. While he chose to prioritize family time over traveling to North America for the tournament, he has continued to support England from afar, including through a surprise visit and a personal message to the squad before the competition. The Prince of Wales has also said he would consider making the trip if England reaches the World Cup final.
