Prince William May Face One Awkward Problem if Harry's UK Visit Goes Smoothly

King Charles's desire to reconcile with Prince Harry may create a new headache for William regarding his brother's future royal access.

Prince Harry is set to visit his home country with Meghan Markle and their two children on July 7, marking a long-awaited opportunity to mend fences with King Charles. Reports suggest that the monarch is eager to reciprocate, inviting the Sussexes for a 'tea and cake' meeting upon their arrival in the UK. Weighing in on the situation, royal expert Alison Boshoff argues that this sit-down could set a precedent for Prince William's future reign, leaving him expected to roll out the red carpet for his brother and his family despite his very clear reservations.

Speaking on The Daily Mail's Palace Confidential YouTube channel, Boshoff explained how Charles's desire to reconcile with Harry and Markle could complicate things for the Prince of Wales in the future. She said, "If it [the meeting] happens and if it goes smoothly, then this could set a precedent, and I think it's tremendously difficult then because if this is as we all believe it is, totally contrary to what Prince William wants to happen, he's then going to have to—when he is the king, he'll then have to unpick it," stressing that the meeting would not be a one-off event but rather establish a pattern that would see the Duke bring his family to the UK more often.

In other words, if Charles continues to entertain Harry and his family in the UK, it could become the new normal. Such an arrangement would likely create expectations for William to continue hosting them when he becomes king, even if it contradicts his reported stance to keep Harry and Meghan at a distance. If he disagrees with it, he would be forced to undo an established practice—one that would be both politically and personally difficult. Boshoff continued, "It'll allow Harry to have a foot in the UK. So, when Harry comes here for his regular charity engagements, he can bring Megan and the children. Well, that will be when he's back in the family."

As for the Sussexes' upcoming visit, a source told Page Six that the Duke of Sussex allegedly hopes to reconcile with members of the royal family. However, a reunion with William remains strictly off the table. Last month, reports claimed the brothers no longer communicate and that Harry does not even have William's phone number, although later, these allegations were dismissed as 'nonsense.' Irrespective of it all, the Prince of Wales is reportedly still furious over Harry's memoir Spare and his repeated criticisms of the Firm in interviews.
