Prince William Could Strip Two Royals of Their Titles Without Hesitation, Source Claims
King Charles is believed to be taking a more understanding stance in the case of Harry and Meghan.
Ever since they stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have constantly faced intense public criticism. Even their post-royal ventures, including media projects and other commercial deals, have drawn massive scrutiny, particularly over claims that they are using their royal status for personal gain. Some critics have also called for their titles to be stripped completely. That said, recent reports claim that Prince William would have stripped the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their titles if he were the king.
Just a few days ago, Harry and Meghan visited Australia and attended a series of public engagements in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney. They visited a royal children’s hospital, gave a speech on mental health, and even carried out several solo engagements, one of which saw Meghan earning around £120,000 for just a 90-minute appearance at a wellness event. However, since their charitable appearances closely matched the style of formal royal tours, the couple’s visit sparked a mixed reaction from the public, as reported by The Mirror.
Much of this controversy resulted from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s firm stance, which she made clear when the couple decided to move to the U.S. in 2020. She demanded that they could not continue as part-time working royals. Now, considering recent developments, some have gone as far as to suggest that William would have stripped Harry and Meghan of their official royal titles entirely if he were king today. Speaking of this, journalist Jane Moore said, "Prince William, one feels, would remove their titles in a heartbeat given half the chance. But it seems that King Charles, about to embark on a state visit to the States, is perhaps paralyzed by his love and responsibility to his troubled youngest son, and maybe a spot of guilt too."
King Charles, who removed his brother Andrew’s royal titles and honors last year, is believed to take a more understanding stance in Harry and Meghan's case. However, Jane claims that the Duke of Sussex reportedly took advantage of his father when he opened up about parenting during a mental health talk in Australia last week. In his speech, he expressed his desire to raise his children differently, hoping to improve on the upbringing he had. Harry said, "There’s no judgment, there’s no blame, there’s no pointing the finger. The reality is that, however you are parenting, that is a personal experience to you; you are going to want to improve on that."
Meanwhile, there is a speculation that the monarch might extend a gesture of reconciliation when Harry returns to the UK this summer for an event related to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. This potential reunion would also allow the King to meet his two grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whom he last saw in June 2022, when Harry and Meghan visited the UK for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
