Prince Harry's UK Return Could Open an Unexpected Door in Television, Says Famed Broadcaster
A veteran broadcaster has proposed reintroducing Prince Harry to British television through the BBC's iconic trivia game show 'The Wheel'.
Prince Harry has made two podcast appearances as a guest since stepping down from royal duties in 2020. He discussed mental health and personal experiences on Armchair Expert in May 2021, and later appeared on Joe Marler Will See You Now last month. The latter seemed to have impressed industry experts, who argued the Duke could be poised to make a significant television career as he returns to the UK.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, in an exclusive with GB News, highlighted that Harry had never taken up a "proper job" while residing in the US, adding that he has "no future" there. However, the Duke gained an admirer with his impromptu podcast appearance. Famed British broadcaster Richard Osman shared that he is excited about Harry's move to the UK. Osman believes the Duke could make a decent career within the media industry. "I saw him on the Joe Marler podcast," Osman began on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, alongside journalist Marina Hyde. "He's very good on things like that. I think you could build a fairly nice media career for Harry where he just appears on television every now and again. If I was his adviser, and I can exclusively reveal that I'm not, I'd have him meeting people," he added.
The veteran broadcaster even proposed reintroducing Harry to British television through the BBC's iconic trivia game show The Wheel, currently hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre. Osman believes the Duke would be a perfect fit for the show. He exclaimed, "I'd put him on The Wheel tomorrow." Weighing in, Osman emphasized creating a show focusing on Harry's involvement with the Invictus Games and advocacy for veterans, suggesting that this would resonate well with audiences. "I've got a show called Harry Special Forces." The podcast host explained that this could showcase a feel-good factor towards the charity work the Duke is associated with. However, Osman believed that Harry would not be suitable for shows such as The Celebrity or Traitors.
The two then joked that Harry would struggle to participate in the famed ancestry-based show Who Do You Think You Are? Osman presented the idea that, upon tracing his ancestry back four generations, it would be revealed that his great-great-great-grandfather was a European king, making it a comedic yet surprising revelation. This twist would represent both the highlight and the low point of the show's format, they argued.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle is reportedly in discussions to return to television with Guy Ritchie's Netflix series The Gentlemen. The status of her potential acting comeback remains uncertain, especially after her prior split from Netflix following the series With Love, Meghan.
