Prince Harry’s Former Protection Officer Warns Of Risks To Archie And Lilibet Amid Security Review
Ken Wharfe warned of difficult questions if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security bid is refused by RAVEC.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are working hard to establish a safe and stable base for themselves and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in the United Kingdom. To make this possible, they have even moved the young Sussexes to a school close to their home. But it seems like the balls just keep on rolling. After all, the recent incident where two men with white backpacks, who work for a European press agency, were spotted outside their children’s school only highlights concerns about their safety in Britain. This latest chaos comes in the face of their ongoing security reviews.
These were funded by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, with the results reportedly expected soon. It’s no news that Harry has been actively arguing that his family deserves and needs police protection in Britain, but experts, the public, and critics have still been questioning whether taxpayers should be funding this for non-working royals.
In fact, Ken Wharfe, Prince Harry’s former royal protection officer, recently spoke to Storm Huntley and Alexis Conran on Daytime on 5, where he discussed these needs. Firstly, he stressed how providing security for the Sussexes as a family, with two young royals, is a different issue as compared to providing private security when Harry visited alone.
Furthermore, talking about the recent incident at school, Wharfe explained, “We talked there about two backpackers being seen loitering around the school. It wasn't until the police intervention that we found out that they were possibly photographers working for a European agency. But the very fact that this, given this publicity, draws in the possibility of what we refer to in the trade as fixated individuals that can arrive at the school without really knowing what they want and without knowing what we could do with these people.” He also explained how the Sussexes’ current private security team wouldn’t have the expertise of police protection, which can be dangerous.
Beyond this, Wharfe also made a point to acknowledge the fact that, at this point, Harry is making a point to clarify that he wants this experience and expertise to be able to protect his young children. Therefore, the former royal aide thinks that the RAVEC is undoubtedly going to have a problem making their final decision. He further explained, “I think to refuse it is going to pose very difficult questions because if something were to happen to those two, or an attempt on their life or an attempt to kidnap them, it would be very embarrassing for the Metropolitan Police and the Home Office.“
