Royal Commentator Questions Strategy Behind Sussexes' Public Statement on School Photographers
After the recent security blow, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to give a public statement has raised eyebrows.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently navigating the treacherous waters of media intrusion regarding Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s school. After moving schools due to security concerns, two photographers working for a European agency were recently caught stalking their school grounds. Understandably shaken, the Sussexes chose to issue a public statement, which quickly raised eyebrows.
Royal expert Emily Nash stated that this recent terrifying development is “another piece in the jigsaw” for Harry and Markle. There have long been doubts over whether their change of schools was part of a strategy in a bid to receive state-funded security, and with a RAVEC risk assessment currently underway for the couple, results are expected soon. Given the context, one has to wonder if the decision to publicly condemn the recent media intrusion could have been a calculated chess move.
“But it is interesting the elements that are made public to the press and are shared with the press, and you have to wonder whether there is an element of them wanting people to have sympathy for their situation—which, of course, when it involves children, is something that no one's really going to argue with,” Nash said via HELLO! Regardless of which side of the royal rift one is, no one can deny that such a level of media intrusion in schools is scary not only for the Sussexes but for other parents as well.
It can be argued that the obscurity with which Archie and Lilibet’s global presence is handled has created an intrigue around them. And the fact that their faces haven’t yet been revealed to the world may have generated an unfair demand over who gets the first face shot. A certain value may have been assigned to such pictures.
On the other hand, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s measured exposure of their children has largely mitigated undue obsession over their lives. While the two parties are indeed estranged, the Waleses may have some valuable advice on protecting royal children from the camera glares that could certainly help out the Sussexes in such difficult times.
But in any case, for better or worse, the continued breaches in security may validate the Sussexes’ claim for automatic police protection in the UK. Their decision to move across the pond may also aid their case.
