Prince Harry Reveals Real Reason He's Back in the US Weeks After UK Move — and It's About His Kids
Prince Harry's returned to the US days after making a move to his home country for a cause extremely close to his heart.
Prince Harry is back in the United States just weeks after moving across the Atlantic with Meghan Markle and their two children. Harry's move to the UK last month raised eyebrows — so has his swift return to the US. The Duke of Sussex touched down in New York on September 22, just a day after a solo appearance at the WellChild Awards in London. The trip isn't as sudden as it looks: he's back in the city for a cause that's extremely close to his heart.
The Prince landed in New York for the Clinton Global Initiative's annual meeting, hosted by Bill and Hillary Clinton, not just as a guest, but as a speaker, taking the stage to address major global issues including artificial intelligence, health, climate, and technology.
“But I come to this as a father,” Harry said, as per PEOPLE!. He continued, “one who has shared countless conversations with other parents as they mourned the loss of their children to recklessly built technology.” The Duke then reflected on his previous appearance at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2024, when he and Markle's Parents' Network was launched after they met families whose children had died by suicide or suffered serious harm linked to social media.
“Hundreds of faces. Hundreds of lock screens. Hundreds of children who should still be here,” Harry said, referring to images of children displayed behind him. The Duke warned that the lessons learned from social media must not be ignored as AI develops. “Social media learned how to capture our attention. AI is learning how to enter our relationships,” Harry opined.
He further added, “It doesn’t just want your attention; it wants your attachment. We have spent years trying to loosen technology’s grip on children’s attention,” he continued. “We cannot wait another decade to discover what happens when technology has a grip on their relationships.”
Harry also called for greater transparency, choice, standards and accountability, while stressing that young people and those with lived experience should remain at the center of the discussion. He noted, “Technology and the humans in charge of it are going to promise us the world. They must be accountable for the world they actually deliver.” The Duke ended with a clear plea to act before history repeats itself. “Two years ago, I brought these faces here as a warning. I do not want to return with more. So this time, let’s move first," he concluded.
