Prince Harry May Be Following Princess Diana’s Lead With His Return to the UK

Princess Diana managed to achieve a life after her royal exit that Prince Harry now wants to create.

Princess Diana has been a central figure in many of Prince Harry’s conversations after stepping away from the monarchy. In many ways, the prince is seeking the life his mother achieved after separating from King Charles by holding a 'meaningful role' and leading a 'more private life'. As the Duke of Sussex returned to the UK this week, an old speech by Diana made its way online that details her hopes for her life outside the royal fold.

Diana and Charles announced their separation in 1992, and a year later the former gave a beautiful speech at the Headway Lunch. “At the end of this year, when I've completed my diary of official engagements, I will be reducing the extent of the public life I've led so far,” she said via Hello! "I attach great importance to my charity work and intend to focus on a smaller range of areas in the future. Over the next few months I will be seeking a more suitable way of combining a meaningful public role with hopefully, a more private life.”

The mother of two mentioned that her “first priority” was to continue giving “love, care, and attention” to Prince William and Harry, along with inculcating “an appreciation of the tradition into which they were born”. Uncannily similar to his mother’s beliefs, the Duke had also expressed his wish to show his home country to his two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The People’s Princess truly earned her moniker as her passion for humanitarian effort continued beyond her days as a senior working royal. Diana once stated in no uncertain terms that she would continue her charitable work. “Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a good and essential part of my life, a kind of destiny."

Even Harry has continued with his philanthropic work even after leaving the Firm. Next year, his passion project, The Invictus Games, will arrive in Birmingham, marking the first time the coveted tournament will return to the UK since its London debut. And on a more personal front, Harry and Meghan Markle have spoken out against media harassment and have made efforts to protect the privacy of their two children.

The Sussexes have returned to the UK as private individuals. Concrete details about their accommodation or Archie and Lilibet’s schools are still kept under wraps.
