Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have completed seven years of marriage. Recently, on May 19, Markle took to her Instagram handle to share a mood board of their 'love story,' which featured several never-before-seen photos of her, Harry, and their kids. Markle also shared another post via her lifestyle brand, As Ever’s, account. As the captions for both had Markle wishing herself on her anniversary, netizens were quick to mock her.
Markle, on her own handle, wrote, “Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories. Thanks to all of you (whether by our side or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story. We appreciate you. Happy anniversary!” Meanwhile, As Ever's post read, "Sometimes two is better than one. Wishing a very happy anniversary to our founder @meghan and her husband, Prince Harry." In response, royal fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to troll the Duchess. A person compared Markle to a ‘high school girl’ and remarked, “Happy Anniversary to me!!!! No mention of my husband. He can be in the photos with ME!!! Meghan Markle just wished herself a Happy Anniversary! Who does that? And why is everything with sappy music? She’s like a high school girl.”
Another royal watcher, poking fun, penned, “Dumbest thing ever. Who in their right mind thanks other people on YOUR OWN anniversary? So stupid.” A critic also dubbed her post as ‘art class nonsense,’ arguing that the Duchess was acting like a ‘teenager.’ An eagle-eyed netizen chimed in and opined that Markle does not have a good life at home. They wrote, “She congratulated herself! And we all know those who post everything about their love on social media don’t have a great life at home!”
Many also argued that a ‘grown woman’ does not make a mood board, let alone for an anniversary. A royal watcher commented, “This is the most bizarre and immature way for a 43-year-old to say happy anniversary to her husband, who is not even mentioned... Why would you run this as normal? She had vision boards as a girl. She’s a grown woman. It’s her classic clap back, but done very oddly.” Others, however, came to Markle's defense and love the rare insight into her life with Harry. A fan noted, “Meghan posted a photo collage for their anniversary on her Instagram. It's so sweet. I especially love the photos of Archie and Lili that she included. Beautiful family.”
Markle and Harry, who met on a blind date in 2016, tied the knot two years later. Despite being married for seven years, Markle, in her debut podcast appearance on the Jamie Kern Lima Show, said she and Harry are still in their ‘honeymoon’ phase. She said, “When you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
