Meghan Markle’s Latest ‘As Ever’ Move Has Fans Convinced She’s ‘Stuck in the Past’

Meghan Markle faces 'hypocrisy' claims after offering a guide on the very British culture she reportedly snubbed.

Meghan Markle rarely acts without the world taking notice. The same is happening yet again with the Duchess facing a wave of backlash from royal fans. Triggered by the most recent update regarding her lifestyle brand, As Ever, netizens argue that the Duchess of Sussex is still ‘stuck in the past.’ In a move that critics say reeks of ‘The Tig 2.0,’ Markle used her latest newsletter to romanticize the British ritual of tea. This has backfired with fans, many of whom accuse her of holding onto a culture she seemingly walked away from years ago.

Meghan used her newsletter to detail her love for slowing down with a ‘cuppa,' offering her American audience a guide on how to replicate the quintessential British experience. She wrote, “We love turning a daily ritual, like a cup of tea, into a quiet invitation to slow down. A proper tea time doesn’t need to be about perfection, but about presence.” The Duchess further went on to instruct readers on how to curate the perfect environment, advising them to “start with the table: keep it considered, not crowded—a softly flickering candle, a neatly folded linen, and a curation of teas ready to steep.”

Not just that, the Duchess also encouraged that followers “follow a few traditions,” such as warming the pot and offering milk or lemon while pairing the drink with “a spoonful of strawberry spread atop a croissant.” The attempt to blend her California lifestyle with British royal sensibilities, however, left many royal watchers unimpressed.

As soon as the post surfaced online, critics were quick to highlight the irony — Markle is promoting British tradition while remaining estranged from the Royal Family. One social media user on X blasted the Duchess, saying, “She really is stuck in the past! This is literally The Tig 2.0, and she hasn't moved on in her head!” Taking aim at the perceived hypocrisy of the post, another individual sneered, “She doesn't even like the Royal Family, but she'll grift off the title.”

Others also noted the visible divide between the British rituals of Markle’s brand and her actual life in Montecito. A third user commented, “Not to mention, we really don't drink tea here in California. More of a coffee culture. So she's certainly not marketing to us!” Moving past the cultural disconnect, some fans also mocked the simplistic nature of the Duchess’s lifestyle advice. One critic joked, “How did we all manage before Meghan Markle came into our lives to tell us the most basic, uncreative things ever?”

The backlash also touched on the deeper family divide, with one royal fan questioning why the Duchess is promoting tea rituals while her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, remain distanced from their heritage. The individual wrote, noting that they do not believe Markle knows that British culture is more than just tea, noting, “Think of all the aspects of their dad's 'homeland' that the children are missing out on beyond the fact that they are being purposefully kept from knowing their family.”
