Meghan Markle Issues Urgent Message to Her Dad Amid Claims She Didn’t Reach Out To Him
Meghan Markle's team recently clarified that she reached out to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after his recent health scare, which saw him being hospitalized and undergoing multiple surgeries in the Philippines. However, as conflicting claims emerge that Thomas hasn't heard from her, the Duchess has issued an urgent message to her father.
Thomas’s sudden hospitalization has reignited discussions on his fragile relationship with his daughter, whom he hasn't seen since before her 2018 wedding. He is now recovering after doctors amputated his left foot and lower leg in a three-hour operation. The Daily Mail reported on 7 December that he had received no messages from his daughter. However, as per a source cited by The Independent, Meghan had in fact reached out, and Thomas needs to 'check his email.' They added, “The Mail made no attempt to contact the Duchess’s team, prior to publication, to verify the claims in their report. Had they asked – particularly in light of the quotes they relied upon from Mr Markle and hospital staff – we would simply have told them to ask Mr Markle to check his email."
A spokesperson for the Duchess has clarified that she had tried to contact her ailing father. Thomas, however, had not seen his messages, despite his contact details being unchanged. The source revealed Meghan had written the email to an address he rarely checks. These reports have added to the long-known pattern of miscommunication and crossed signals between them.
Amid these recent developments, earlier remarks of Thomas have resurfaced, painting Meghan as being indifferent to her father's plight. The 81-year-old had once reflected on whether his daughter would attend his funeral. He had, in an interview with journalist Caroline Graham, “Do you think Meghan will come to my funeral?” He had added, “Will I get a better funeral because my son-in-law is fifth in line to the throne?”
Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, has also commented on the growing concern within the family. In 2024, she warned her sister about the seriousness of their father’s condition. She said at the time, “When Dad goes, it will be too late.” Her words reflected an apparent fear that their father’s health may decline further before any reconciliation takes place.
Thomas’s son, Thomas Markle Jr., recently voiced the same worry. According to the Daily Mail, he urged Meghan and Harry to reconnect with his father. He said, “I would implore Meghan and Harry to reach out to Dad.” With Thomas now stable but still vulnerable, the pleas from his children carry new weight. Whether these messages prompt a genuine attempt to mend a long-standing rift remains uncertain. However, the urgency of the moment is unmistakable.
Meghan's relationship with her father strained in 2018, after Thomas posed for paparazzi photos before her wedding to Prince Harry and gave scathing interviews later.
