Meghan Markle ‘Staying Out of Sight’ in the UK — and the Reason Is Reportedly Strategic, Source Says
Meghan Markle has so far been seen only with close friends at exclusive spots, but she is yet to make a public appearance.
It has been weeks since the Sussexes returned to the UK. A lot has gone down in such a short span, from security concerns to Prince Harry’s solo public engagements. However, amid all this, Meghan Markle still hasn’t made an official public appearance since her comeback, and it seems there is a strategic reason behind the delayed debut.
A source claimed that the Duchess of Sussex was advised to be “less accessible” to generate interest around her. Although it is seemingly a “strategy she’s leaning into”, the mother of two is also preoccupied with several other things. “She is deliberately biding her time and staying out of sight intentionally, but she’s also got plenty of things keeping her busy,” the source said via News 24.
Markle was spotted earlier, on a few occasions, catching a meal with comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia Rossi. Kelly McKee Zajfen, the royal’s close friend, also shared some precious glimpses of the Sussexes’ UK life in an Instagram post. However, none of that can be compared to the magnitude of an official public appearance on a red carpet or at a charitable event. The source claimed that the hope behind the long wait has been to build “anticipation” and create excitement, saying, “When she does start stepping out more, the hope is that she’ll have built up enough anticipation that people will be excited to see her, rather than having her everywhere right away and the public getting sick of her.”
When Markle left the UK in 2020, one might assume there was some bad blood given the circumstances. But six years down the line, things have seemingly taken a positive turn, as Harry reportedly believes his wife will receive a “fantastic reception” whenever she steps out in public. “Make no mistake, that is the goal,” the source added.
It is completely understandable if Markle chose to prioritize family over her high-profile public comeback. It has been a rocky return for the family of four. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were pulled out of their new schools days after the term started, and it was later reported that Markle’s WhatsApp number had been leaked. Apart from the worrying situations, the UK will certainly be a starkly different environment and culture for the kids, and they will naturally need time to settle in.
While the Duchess bides her time, Harry has been holding down the Sussex fort in front of the cameras. And while he would obviously miss his wife by his side, she has shown her support for him through a heartwarming video tribute.
