Meghan Markle ‘Shuts the Door’ on NBC After Scathing SNL Skit: 'She Feels Attacked'
During a recent segment on 'Saturday Night Live,' Meghan Markle was jokingly called an 'American terrorist' for keeping Prince Harry in the US.
Meghan Markle has often found herself as the butt of jokes following her royal exit, but one ill-fated comment may have struck a nerve. During a Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live, host Colin Jost jokingly referred to her as an 'American terrorist' for supposedly keeping Prince Harry in the US. While many expected Markle to take it with a pinch of salt, sources alleged she is furious at the insult and has decided to cut ties with NBC, the broadcaster of SNL, permanently.
In an article on his Substack, Naughty But Nice, royal columnist Rob Shuter claimed to have spoken to various insiders who shed light on Markle's alleged anger. He quoted a source who said, "Meghan does not laugh when she feels publicly humiliated. She sees this as deliberate, cheap, and personal—and once she feels mocked, she shuts the door." And her reaction was immediate—NBC was effectively blacklisted as she was allegedly done playing nice. Shuter also pointed out that while the majority saw the joke as part of a harmless late-night comedy, the Duchess saw it "as establishment ridicule dressed up as satire."
For those unversed, Jost made the joke while speaking about King Charles's US state visit, quipping that the monarch had come to America to "seek the release of a British hostage being held by an American terrorist," as a photo of Harry and Markle from their engagement flashed onscreen. Weighing in on her humiliation, another insider spilled, "This is what Meghan does. When she feels attacked, she doesn't confront—she cuts off access. She distanced herself from Vanity Fair after coverage turned, and now NBC is getting the same treatment." Watch the video here!
Unsurprisingly, this is not the first time that the live comedy sketch show has cracked insulting jokes at the Sussexes' expense. In a May 2025 episode of Saturday Night Live, during the Weekend Update sketch with Michael Che, Jost remarked, "President [Donald] Trump also announced a new trade deal with the UK that will reopen British markets for American companies," referring to the US-UK trade deal at the time. He then quipped, "All that Britain demands in return is that we keep these two," as a picture of the Sussexes popped up on the screen.
Another cutting comment came during a March 28 Saturday Night Live UK opening sketch, where cast member Hammed Animashaun quipped that Harry was "going to marry a woman 98 percent of the UK public will find it impossible to have a normal conversation about" in a dig at Markle, who catapulted into the British public's attention. To this day, she is often the topic of conversation for all the wrong reasons, accused of allegedly controlling her husband. The officers in the parody skit, portrayed by cast members Celeste Dring, Ayoade Bamgboye, and Animashaun, were revealing their plan to make other royals less likable, taking a jab at Harry, Markle, and Prince William in the process.
