Meghan Markle Posts Sweet Australia Tribute Video With Heartfelt Message to Fans
Meghan Markle shares a rare behind-the-scenes montage featuring candid Bondi Beach strolls and hotel room snippets.
Meghan Markle is back in California, yet she still finds her heart tied to the Pacific shores. In a rather heartwarming move — following her high-stakes Australia tour alongside Prince Harry — the Duchess of Sussex surprised fans by sharing a rare, behind-the-scenes video featuring private moments from their trip Down Under. Posted shortly after their Montecito return, the Instagram reel served both as a summary of their formal engagements and an intimate record of their time off. Along with the footage, the Duchess also included a poignant message for the country, stating, “Australia, you have our hearts" with John Paul Young's "Love Is In The Air" playing in the background.
While the footage highlights the vibrant energy of their time in Sydney and Melbourne, it is the unreleased personal snippets that have truly captivated the fans. Offering a sharp contrast to the polished press photos of royal tours, Markle included clips filmed on her personal phone, treating fans to the serene sight of the couple smiling brightly as they entered the halls of the Royal Children’s Hospital hand-in-hand. The reel also featured a quick glimpse of the couple enjoying a quiet morning stroll along Bondi Beach, while a particularly candid scene shows Markle applying her makeup in her hotel room. The video also featured the two enjoying an intimate dinner away from the public eye, emphasizing the brief moments the couple managed to secure during their packed schedule.
Their return to California was just as sentimental as the trip itself. When the Duke and Duchess arrived at their Montecito residence, they were greeted by a “Welcome Home” banner — something she later shared on her Instagram Stories. The couple didn’t return home empty-handed either, and soon the Duchess quickly pulled out the souvenirs she brought for her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This included Australia-themed sticker books, heartfelt fan letters for Lilibet, and a packet of TimTams that the family immediately dug into once they were home.
While the Duchess showed her deep appreciation for Australia, questions remain regarding whether the trip was truly successful. Visiting this time as private citizens — unlike their 2018 royal tour — the couple did turn heads despite scrutiny over who’s actually funding the visit. Despite public pushback from Aussie taxpayers, Flinders University associate professor Giselle Bastin suggested the Sussexes’ trip went ‘well’ simply because “nothing has gone wrong.” Speaking to the BBC, she said, “They didn't turn up at great big advertised opportunities to see them, at least not in the form of walkabouts, so they've managed to minimise the risk of people having a negative reaction, or hecklers calling out or booing them or anything like that.”
By highlighting unscripted moments — such as a quiet morning walk on the beach to the heartfelt joy of their reunion at home — Markle shared a personal narrative of what she clearly views as a successful trip. With plans to expand her lifestyle brand, As Ever, in Australia, the Duchess’s digital montage serves as a thank-you note to the public, proving that while the tour is over, the connection remains.
