Meghan Markle Is ‘Steaming’ Over Claims the Queen Did Not Trust Her: Expert
According to royal expert Neil Sean, while Meghan Markle didn't trust the Queen around her daughter either, she was desperate to prove otherwise.
When Meghan Markle initially joined the royal family, the late Queen Elizabeth reportedly viewed her as a valuable asset to the monarchy. However, that perception unraveled after Prince Harry and Markle's 2020 exit. Years after the Queen's death, royal author Hugo Vickers claimed in his new book that she was so wary of the Sussexes that she insisted on having her lady-in-waiting present whenever they tried to contact her. Weighing in on the same, royal commentator Neil Sean believes Markle is furious at the revelations, given her efforts to stay in the late monarch's good graces.
In his new book, Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History, Vickers said that the damage was so irreversible that whenever Harry called, "the Queen would ask her lady-in-waiting to be with her," and engage in "monosyllabic conversations made up only of 'yes' and 'no.'" Moreover, he mentioned another incident that showed her deep mistrust of the Sussexes. In June 2022, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, she refused to meet the couple privately when they wanted to introduce her to their daughter, Princess Lilibet. Vickers wrote that she "demanded that the Sussexes' visit take place in the presence of her lady-in-waiting," with a strict order that no photographers be present.
Commenting on Vickers' bombshell revelations, Sean said on his YouTube channel, Neil Sean's Daily News Headlines, that Harry and Markle desperately wanted the public to know that the Queen had met Lilibet, as not doing so would be 'damaging' to their reputations. To add insult to injury, he asserted that it was the Duke and Duchess, and not her, who harbored trust issues. He argued, "The headlines have come out how Markle, alongside Prince Harry, didn't want the Queen to be alone with her [Lilibet] simply because they didn't trust her."
To make matters worse, Sean stressed that Markle was reportedly frustrated that the late monarch's former aides, who were present during the meeting, didn't support her when she repeatedly tried to prove her close bond with the Queen. He continued, "Of course, they [the staff] could be called upon. Would they want to?... You know, they've moved on. They're still with her shop, but they don't want to be in this pantomime. Meghan, apparently, though, is steaming at this particular association, saying that this is totally not true at all."
Although Harry presented a relatively amiable picture of the Lilibet meetup in his memoir, Spare, The Telegraph reported that the late monarch rejected being photographed with Lilibet but had a valid reason to do so. It seems the Queen, at the time, had a bloodshot eye and 'personally intervened' to prevent a photo from being taken. However, Vickers mentioned in his book that she was reportedly fearful of the photo being sold to the US media or Netflix. Interestingly, she was also reportedly very angry when the Sussexes chose to name their daughter after her.
