Meghan Markle Flooded With Offers After Pals Tease Hollywood Return — and Netflix Won't Be Thrilled
Meghan Markle's friends, Eric and Eliza Roberts, had recently revealed she could return to acting following the collapse of her Netflix deal, much to the dismay of the latter.
Meghan Markle may have bagged a prince and married into royalty, but she remains widely remembered as Rachel Zane from the hit legal drama Suits. Her Hollywood friends, Eric and Eliza Roberts, recently praised her talent, suggesting that she could return to acting following the unraveling of her $100 million Netflix deal. Now, an industry source claims the Duchess of Sussex has been flooded with offers, with directors eager to sign her, a development unlikely to please Netflix after their very public split.
As reported by Page Six, studio and production companies are eagerly pursuing Markle for a range of roles, including horror, sitcoms, drama, romcoms, and even soap operas. A senior Los Angeles casting agent revealed that producers have been "scrambling in the last couple of weeks" over an opportunity to hire her. They added, "Meghan has been the hottest talking point in Hollywood circles in the last couple of weeks. The very suggestion that she is planning to come back to acting has prompted interest the likes I have never seen in my three decades in the business."
The fascinating development, as the insider puts it, comes amid news that Markle ended her lucrative partnership with Netflix on her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Interestingly, even after leaving the royal family and joining hands with the streaming giant in 2022, she refused to act in any of their projects, making this a not-so-happy news for them. Netflix may certainly regret severing ties with her, especially at the peak of her demand and star power. The agent continued, "Her [Markle's] standing as an actress has always been solid, and she was immensely popular in Suits. A return to her being involved in dramatics on screen, rather than being in the drama with her family issues off-screen, is very appealing."
Additionally, the Hollywood agent described the Duchess as a 'unicorn,' as her presence on a project would generate 'stratospheric' hype and headlines. A source argued, "The primary opportunities seen by executives are how much attention Meghan's return would bring to a project, which would prompt potentially tens of millions of investment money." To which the agent stressed, "And the reason for that is that the interest and publicity for her return would mean potential huge viewing figures or cinemagoer ticket sales – not just in the US, but around the world."
These recent revelations come after Eric and his wife, Eliza Roberts, gave an interview to The Daily Mail about Markle's potential return to acting. Eric suggested that her comeback would catch many off guard, albeit in a good way. He said, "I think she [Markle] should come back… And I think she's going to be fantastic and blow everybody's mind." Eric played billionaire Charles Frontman on Suits and developed a close friendship with her on set. Meanwhile, Eliza insisted the 'magic' of Suits could return, despite the ill-fated Los Angeles-based spin-off being canceled after one season last year.
