Is Meghan Markle Returning to TV? ‘Suits’ Co-Star Hints at Potential Cameo in New Comedy-Drama
Actress Abigail Spencer eyes a reunion with Meghan Markle on a US remake as the Duchess navigates a high-profile return to the screen.
While Meghan Markle may have stepped away from the world of acting to join the Royal Family, a former colleague of hers has signaled that the door remains wide open for a return to the small screen. Actress Abigail Spencer — the Duchess’s long-time friend and Suits co-star — recently dropped a major hint that a cameo could be on the cards for the American remake of the hit British drama Doc Martin. The news comes as Markle steps back in front of the camera for a brief role in Amazon MGM’s Close Personal Friends, in what many see as a significant step in her return to the entertainment industry.
Spencer, who starred as Dana Scott alongside Markle’s Rachel Zane in the hit legal drama, has recently finished filming the first season of Best Medicine, the US spin-off of the popular UK show. During a recent interview with Us Weekly, she discussed the future of the series in detail and didn’t hold back on her wishlist, revealing exactly who she wants to join her on set. “Everyone I've ever worked with [should join],” she told the outlet, specifically naming her former Suits family. She continued, “I saw Sarah Rafferty the other day, and I was like: 'Oh, I really want Sarah to come on the show…Also, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, and Gabriel Macht. Any of my Suits cast like Patrick J Adams.”
When asked about the Duchess — one of the most famous alumni — Spencer said she’s really hoping for a reunion. “I don't know if we're going to get Meghan Markle, but Meghan would be amazing. I love all of my Suits cast,” the actress highlighted. The prospect of a cameo comes amid a series of public interactions between Markle and her former castmates. Patrick J. Adams, who played Markle’s onscreen husband Mike Ross in the legal drama, recently found himself at the center of a lighthearted ‘jam-gate’ following his admission on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast that he had yet to receive a jar of the Duchess’s, As Ever, strawberry jam.
Responding swiftly to her former co-star’s playful disappointment, Markle took to social media to write, “Jams en route for you.” Following up on the promise with a loving note, she added, “Hugs to those beautiful babies. Send my love to your mom.” This friendly camaraderie between the Duchess and the actor doesn’t come as a surprise, given that Adams has remained a staunch defender of Markle. Despite that bond, he confessed he might change his cheeky Instagram bio, which famously reads, “The other guy from that show that you're watching on that app because that girl married that prince.”
He joked that while the Duchess hasn’t addressed his bio directly, he can easily picture her reaction. “It's the sort of thing that wherever Meghan is, if she's ever read that, she's going, 'Patrick, give me a break,” he remarked, laughing that he was sure he got a lot of ‘eye rolls.’
