Meghan Debuts New Ring That May Be an Anniversary Gift From Harry — but It's Eerily Similar to Kate's
Meghan Markle's latest jewelry reveal has royal fans comparing her new ring to Princess Kate's famous sapphire.
Meghan Markle subtly showed off a new ring in a recently released video, and only one question is on everyone’s mind: Was it a gift from Prince Harry? Since they celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary just a few days back, it’s not hard to imagine Harry making such a romantic gesture. However, the jewel looked very similar to one that is also owned by Princess Kate.
The 44-year-old was spotted wearing the dark blue ring in a new Instagram video promoting her As Ever lifestyle brand. In the clip, believed to have been filmed at her California home, Markle showed off a basket filled with homegrown fruits and vegetables before heading outside to enjoy a cup of tea. But it was the new piece of jewelry on her finger that really caught fans' attention. Watch the video here!
It did not take long for royal fans to compare the ring to Kate's famous sapphire engagement ring, which once belonged to Princess Diana. At the same time, others argued the resemblance could be down to the lighting or the video's blurry quality. There were also a few noticeable differences, including the gold prongs around the stone and Meghan wearing it on her middle finger rather than her ring finger. As of now, it is still unclear what gemstone the ring actually features.
The 12-carat sapphire engagement ring, estimated to be worth approximately $517,000 (£390,000), is easily one of the most recognizable pieces of royal jewelry. Princess Diana, who it originally belonged to, chose it from Garrard ahead of her 1981 wedding to the then-Prince Charles. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry revealed that William had asked to keep the sapphire ring after Diana's death in 1997, adding that he had no issue with the decision. Years later, William proposed to Kate with the iconic ring during a private trip to Kenya.
Markle’s engagement ring has its own special connection to Diana. Designed by the Duke himself, it features a cushion-cut diamond from Botswana at the center, with two smaller diamonds from his mother’s personal collection on either side. The ring is believed to be worth between $150,000 – $160,000 (£120,000).
On May 19, the Sussexes celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary with a private family celebration. Markle shared a series of never-before-seen photos from their wedding day and the years that followed. She also revealed that Harry gifted her a pair of penguin statues, a playful nod to an inside joke from their engagement days, when the couple dressed up as penguins because the birds are known to mate for life.
