King Charles' Unique Walking Stick Steals Attention on His Recent Scottish Outing — and It Has a Purpose
King Charles is a fashionable royal and his stylistic sense was on display during a recent engagement in Scotland.
King Charles is a man of style, and his outfits are always impeccably constructed. Every element of his attire complements the others. His recent outing to the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands was proof. While he looked absolutely stylish in a grey blazer and beige chinos, his unique walking stick stole the attention.
Usually, a walking stick is considered a tool to help the elderly move. However, that may not be the case with Charles, as the King is quite active. He exercises regularly and is particular about his diet according to reports. And given his intense workload, no one can really say otherwise. So, his ornate Shepherd's Crook was actually not really a normal walking aid. It was a traditional country fair walking stick designed specifically to help navigate rough terrain, such as the Scottish Highlands.
While the walking stick Charles carried to the National Park certainly aided him in walking through the challenging conditions, it also fulfilled the stylistic requirement. The lofty cane was brown with a lighter-colored handle adorned with an intricate design. It certainly paired well with the monarch’s outfit of the day. The sovereign completed his look with a graph-check white shirt, patterned maroon tie, and a matching pocket square.
The King had visited the Cairngorms National Park to appreciate and congratulate the brave firefighters, dedicated volunteers, community leaders, and local landowners who courageously fought the massive wildfire that ravaged the area this summer. The avid gardener and passionate environmentalist reportedly discussed how native Caledonian pine trees recover after a fire. He noted that it was a “great relief” that the region had finally received some rain.
The monarch has been using walking sticks ever since he was a young man, as he would often go to the countryside. And surely he must have an enviable collection of walking canes, each more fashionable than the other. Queen Camilla had once talked about Charles’ love for hiking and reportedly holds a reputation of being a “mountain goat”.
Days after Charles’ visit, his son and daughter-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton, also visited Scotland on Thursday. It was their first visit to the Isle of Bute. The couple, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, arrived by ferry in their namesake town of Rothesay. These recent royal visits, although most likely planned well in advance, have coincided with the announcement of a possible referendum by Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to secure independence from the UK.
