King Charles's 164-Day Schedule Highlights the Monarchy's Strength and Resilience

Today marks the fourth death anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and the corresponding accession of King Charles III to the throne. The monarchy under Charles has faced challenges not only from health concerns but also from the scandals that have tested the image of the Crown. The King was diagnosed with cancer on February 5, 2024, after it was discovered during a hospital procedure for a benign enlarged prostate. By 2025, he shared positive news regarding his treatment, attributing his progress to early diagnosis and effective intervention that allowed for a reduced treatment, as reported by the BBC. However, the monarch did not allow his health issues to get in the way of his royal duties. Recent statistics have revealed that King Charles has maintained a remarkably active pace of engagements.
King Charles III has showcased remarkable resilience and an active agenda during his fourth year on the throne, fulfilling official duties on 164 days, GB News reported. This marks a slight decrease from 176 days in his third year, yet surpasses his first (161) and second (133) years, the latter of which was heavily impacted his cancer diagnosis. Despite ongoing treatment, he continues to maintain a demanding schedule.
A standout highlight of his sovereign engagements was a successful state visit to the United States in late April and early May 2026, where he addressed Congress to celebrate the transatlantic relationship. In doing so, he became only the second reigning British monarch to have spoken before both chambers. The trip also included his first visit to Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory. Earlier, in October 2025, King Charles also undertook a two-day state visit to the Vatican, meeting Pope Leo XIV and attending a service at the Sistine Chapel.
His domestic itinerary took him from the Eden Project in Cornwall to Grimsby Town Football Club in Lincolnshire and the Ards Allotments in County Down. He also walked along the newly renamed and expanded King Charles III England Coast Path in East Sussex. The monarch made a notable appearance at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow, emerging from the Doctor Who TARDIS. Over the past year, the UK saw its fourth prime minister change, with Andy Burnham succeeding Sir Keir Starmer in July. During this time, Charles held 26 formal audiences with his prime ministers and chaired 12 Privy Council meetings. He also met with world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and recently French President Emmanuel Macron.
When it comes to the senior working royals, Queen Camilla's schedule remained packed, with 114 days of royal duties performed during her husband's fourth year as sovereign, exceeding her previous years' totals. She accompanied the King on major overseas trips to Washington, Bermuda, and the Vatican, while also managing her own solo engagements across various domestic locations. Meanwhile, the Princess Royal, true to her image as the 'hardest-working' member, led with 183 engagements, followed by the Duke of Edinburgh with 147 and Prince William with 115 days. The Princess of Wales saw the most notable increase, from 39 to 63 days, signaling a concerted effort by the senior members to maintain the Crown's presence.
