King Charles to Unveil Renovated Part of Windsor Castle Inspired by An Unlikely Thing
The newly renovated space at the iconic Windsor Castle is going to welcome its first set of visitors this summer.
For centuries now, Windsor Castle has been one of the most iconic and recognizable royal residences in the world, admired for its historic significance as well as mind-blowing beauty. It is also one of the oldest and largest occupied castles in the world. While the building already features an impressive architecture among other things, King Charles is now set to reveal another newly transformed part of it that is expected to take everyone by surprise. What makes it even more special is the unexpected inspiration behind the space's redesign.
As reported by HELLO Magazine, His Majesty is set to unveil a new garden within the grounds of Windsor Castle, inspired by the petal-like orbit of planet Venus. The project has taken about 18 months of careful planning and renovation, and will welcome its first visitors this summer. Situated in the former East Terrace Garden, the space will be open to the public from July 16 through September 13. Once used as a bowling green and even turned into allotments during wartime, the area will now feature perennial flower beds and precisely shaped, hedge-bordered pathways, reflecting Charles's eco-conscious mindset.
Adam Scott, who is the gardens and nursery manager at Windsor Castle, spoke about the new attraction and said, "This has been a significant project to reshape this historic garden for the future, reflecting His Majesty’s vision to create a space that will offer beauty, interest, and biodiversity throughout the seasons and for generations to come. After around 18 months of careful transformation, we are delighted to open the Venus Garden to visitors this summer, marking the start of an important new chapter in the garden’s 200-year history."
As reported by GB News, access to the garden will be included in a standard Windsor Castle entry ticket. Visitors on Universal Credit and some other qualifying benefits can enter for a little more than $1 per person, along with up to five members of their household, through the discounted ticket scheme. Meanwhile, it's worth noting that the iconic castle has also been fitted with solar panels, and thousands of saplings have been planted across the grounds to support biodiversity and attract more wildlife to the area. Not just this, electric vehicle charging points have also been installed at the historic site.
