King Charles to Erase Last Traces of Harry and Meghan From Frogmore Cottage: Report
The Crown Estate was gifted to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the late Queen as their wedding present.
It's been over half a decade since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties, leaving the United Kingdom for the United States and a peaceful life. Three years back, Harry and Markle were officially evicted from Frogmore Cottage, and now all physical reminders of their brief time there are about to vanish. The Crown Estate was gifted to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the late Queen as their wedding present, and soon after, Harry renovated the Cottage to fit as a family home, spending over $3.2 million. But under King Charles’ monarchy, the palace is now reportedly planning to erase all ties to the Sussexes from the property.
While there are murmurs that Harry and Markle want to return to the UK with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, if the Duke's security is reinstated following the ongoing Home Office review, it now seems unlikely that they will get to stay at Frogmore. With the Palace having decided to reverse all changes made to the estate, it will be stripped of all traces of Harry and Markle. Aside from spending $3.2M on renovations, the Prince also spent $67K to install a copper bathtub in the estate, but now all remnants of the couple will be wiped clean.
"It’s (Frogmore Cottage) been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in. Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it," shared a source. Talking to the Sun, the source added, "It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era."
The extensive makeover carried out by Harry and Markle five years back transformed Frogmore Cottage from a traditional royal residence into a highly personalized modern retreat. The overhaul reportedly included the addition of a private yoga studio, major structural work involving new ceiling beams and floor joists, a complete rewiring of the property, and the installation of entirely new gas and water systems.
The Sussexes also added several luxury touches of their own, from eco-conscious vegan paint to interiors curated by Soho House designer Vicky Charles. The couple gave the historic Windsor home a distinctly California-inspired aesthetic long before the couple permanently relocated to the US. Harry and Markle moved to the US in 2020, soon after Archie was born, and have since returned only once to attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.
