King Charles Seen Struggling During Latest Outing as Senior Aide Rushes to Help
King Charles struggled with the UK's record-breaking heatwave during a royal outing, with a senior aide stepping in to help him cool down.
The scorching weather seems to be catching up with everyone, including King Charles. During a recent outing, the monarch was spotted wiping sweat from his forehead while greeting officials before a senior aide stepped in with a fan to help him beat the heat.
While meeting delegates in the Throne Room at St. James's Palace, Charles was seen trying to stay cool as retired Vice Admiral Sir Tony Johnstone-Burt held up an electric fan for him. He is the Master of the Household, and the role oversees both official and private events across the royal residences. The outing came on June 24, the UK's hottest June day on record, with temperatures climbing to 96.44°F, surpassing the previous record set during the summer of 1976.
The timing was rather ironic. On one of the hottest days the UK has ever seen, Charles was attending an event focused on climate change and tackling super-pollutants like methane. Hosted by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the gathering featured speakers including Ed Miliband, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. But the heat did not stop Charles from carrying on with the event.
He met with leaders from politics, science, business, and international climate diplomacy at the environmental reception, which took place during London Climate Action Week. And it was not just the King trying to stay cool. Guests were handed folding fans as they walked in, and a nurse was on standby in case anyone felt unwell in the heat. With no air conditioning inside the historic building, even the large fans placed around the rooms were not enough to stop people from wiping away sweat and fanning themselves.
Charles also joked about the heat while chatting with Murat Kurum, the president of the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference. After being asked how he was doing, the King quipped, "I'll be doing a great deal better if you can get some progress at the COP31." He later spoke with Ed Miliband as well, who pointed out in his welcome speech that record-breaking temperatures are becoming the "new normal" for Britain.
Earlier in the day, Charles visited the Roger Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Hammersmith, where he also met rapper Tinie Tempah. Despite the soaring temperatures, the King stuck to his signature formal look, wearing a light gray suit paired with a pale blue tie and matching pocket square.
Despite continuing cancer treatment, the King has kept up with a full schedule of royal engagements in recent months. Buckingham Palace has shared that he is responding positively to treatment, though he is still receiving ongoing care.
