King Charles May Force Andrew Out of Royal Lodge by Confiscating a Prized Possession: Report
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been locked in a slow-burning standoff over his continued occupation of Royal Lodge, the sprawling Windsor property he had called home for over two decades. Reports suggest that King Charles has now served an eviction notice, signalling a hardening of resolve after months of behind-the-scenes negotiations.
Given Mountbatten Windsor has shown little urgency so far, the King reportedly may have a final lever left to pull. According to the Express, Charles could force his brother’s hand by 'confiscating' a key personal asset, one that might "make him cry." That asset is Mountbatten Windsor’s much-discussed collection of teddy bears. Citing unnamed sources, the paper went on to suggest that because Mountbatten Windsor is “somewhat obsessed with teddy bears,” arranging for the stuffed toys to be packed away could act as a form of emotional leverage, potentially forcing him to “quit Royal Lodge by the start of January [2026].” In a line that bordered on the theatrical, the scenario was even described as "a Christmas present to the nation." The Express also reported that, “He’s currently so lonely he’s taken to chatting to the plush toys as if they were close friends.”
Few royal watchers believe the monarch would genuinely attempt to strong-arm his brother by targeting something so personal and so easily sensationalized. That said, there is growing evidence that Charles is prepared to strip Royal Lodge of items that matter, just not in the way the report suggests.
According to royal author Robert Hardman, who pointed it out on Daily Mail's Royals, “The Royal Collection, which owns quite a lot of the treasures inside there, may say, ‘Well, we can’t be confident that this place is safe anymore,’ and they’ll start taking the paintings and some of the furniture away. According to a source cited by PEOPLE, the countdown is now officially on for Mountbatten Windsor and Sarah Ferguson. The disgraced former royal and his ex-wife have reportedly been given a firm deadline to vacate the 30-room Royal Lodge, with the insider claiming they are expected to move out by January 31, 2026, just a month away.
The source added that, despite a swirl of speculation about Ferguson’s next move, the reality appears far more grounded. Rather than relocating abroad or leaning on extended royal family connections, the former Duchess is said to be “looking for a place in Windsor,” a notable shift from earlier reports that painted a far more unsettled picture. Since news of the Royal Lodge eviction broke in late October, Ferguson’s potential destinations have ranged widely. Various outlets have suggested she might decamp to Portugal, where Princess Eugenie owns property, take up residence in Princess Beatrice’s so-called 'granny annex' in the Cotswolds, downsize to a “tiny one-bedroom flat” in London, or even make a dramatic transatlantic leap to Beverly Hills.
