King Charles Is Hoping for an Extra ‘Special’ Christmas This Year Amid Cancer Battle
King Charles is allegedly approaching this year’s Christmas with a deep sense of urgency. He hopes to make the holiday season 'special' as his ongoing cancer battle has added an element of uncertainty. Sources say the King is intent on creating meaningful memories with his family amid fears that this could be 'his last' Christmas.
As per Us Weekly, a source close to the monarch revealed that he is prioritizing spending time with his family while also fulfilling his royal duties. They said, “Charles prioritizes duty, but he’s also a family man who knows his time is precious.” Despite the health concerns, Charles still wants to partake in the traditional Christmas morning walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church. He will also record his annual Christmas speech. The source added, “Nothing would stop Charles from doing that.” It reflects the late Queen Elizabeth’s longstanding belief that a royal “has to be seen to be believed.” Another source also shed light on the growing concern among those in his inner circle. While the King has reassured the public that he's “not [doing] too bad,” those close to him still intend to assess things a day at a time.
Meanwhile, Robert Jobson, in his book, The Windsor Legacy, recently revealed how the King was reduced to tears after the overwhelming public support since the announcement of his diagnosis. Jobson noted, “He’s [Charles] been reduced to tears — not by his plight, but by the thousands of warm letters he has received. Some were cards, clearly made by children and covered in glitter or accompanying a get-well gift of Smarties.”
Despite the holiday season being emotionally heavy for the royals, it will still carry a sense of celebration. After all, Kate Middleton has been in remission since the beginning of this year. A source revealed that the family will cherish spending time together and make it their utmost priority. The Wales family recently shifted into their new home, Forest Lodge, in Windsor Great Park. Hence, the royal couple will be looking forward to “creating memories in what they consider their forever home,” especially after a difficult 2024.
Middleton’s parents, Michael and Carole, are expected to join the royals at Sandringham to show their support for the King during the holiday season. The Princess went public about her cancer diagnosis in 2024. She did so weeks after speculation surrounding her absence from royal duties. After seeking preventive chemotherapy, she announced that she was in remission in January 2025 and has since resumed her royal engagements while still adapting to her 'new normal'.
