King Charles Had the Funniest Response to a Fan Who Said She Came Just to See Him (Video)
King Charles joked that a fan “came to shop” instead of see him during a funny exchange that quickly caught attention online.
King Charles appears to be stoic, but he has a rather funny bone that’s quite charming. During a walkabout on his three-day visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday, Charles greeted his well-wishers warmly. However, when one of his beloved fans expressed her love and said she had come a long way from home, just to meet him, he gave a hilarious reply that even made the onlookers laugh.
On day 2 of Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit to Northern Ireland, both royals took separate ways to carry out engagements across County Down. Camilla spent time in Hillsborough supporting local businesses and meeting members of the community. Meanwhile, Charles traveled to the coastal town of Newcastle to greet crowds, sharing a few lighthearted moments with his supporters.
When the King met his horde of fans waiting patiently to greet him, he shook hands with a few and asked them, “Do you all live in Newcastle?” A woman from the group replied that she lived in Jordanstown, near Carrickfergus. She added, “I came here to see you!” The King, visibly surprised, said, “No! You must’ve come to do your shopping.” With a smile, he indicated that he was joking, and everyone laughed along. But that was not the only memorable moment from the King’s outing in Newcastle. During the walkabout, bird droppings suddenly landed on the back of Charles’ jacket while he was greeting crowds, and the monarch handled it with humor. Laughing off the awkward moment, he joked, “At least it didn’t land on my head,” as people nearby burst into laughter. One person in the crowd even told him it was supposed to be a sign of “good luck,” which turned the unfortunate incident into a fun anecdote.
Charles was welcomed at the town’s Community Cinema, where film fans presented him with a special VIP movie ticket during his visit. He later stopped by the Pantry Foodbank at Donard Methodist Church, where he spent time chatting with volunteers, praised their work, and even helped pack grocery boxes for people in need.
On the first day of the Northern Ireland trip, Charles also stopped by W5 LIFE at Odyssey Place in Belfast, where he met young entrepreneurs supported by the King’s Trust. He met with jewelry business owner Rachel Rose, who presented the King with a beaded bag charm, which Charles quickly decided to take home for Princess Charlotte. Smiling at the thoughtful gift, the grandfather of the 7-year-old told her, “Thank you, she will love that.”
