King Charles Barely Acknowledges Andrew at Sandringham — Despite Living Just Minutes Away
After Andrew’s arrest in February, King Charles has drawn a firm line between the monarchy and the controversies of his disgraced brother.
Over the past few years, the relationship between King Charles and his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has constantly deteriorated, mainly due to a growing list of controversies and some difficult royal decisions. For instance, after the former Duke’s past connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light, Charles withdrew security arrangements and other major privileges that were previously extended to him, intending to protect the monarchy’s public image. In a similar move, it has now been revealed that during the King’s recent stay at the Norfolk estate, there was no sign of a reunion between the siblings, despite their proximity.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Charles has been spending time at Wood Farm, as his main residence is currently open to visitors, and the smaller property is just 0.6 miles from Marsh Farm, where the former Prince resides. However, there are no plans for Mountbatten-Windsor to be invited over, nor for Charles to make any private call. The situation throws light upon the monarch’s firm intent to maintain distance from his brother, as scrutiny continues over allegations of misconduct in public office. Previously, after the ex-Duke’s arrest in February, he also confirmed his support for the ongoing police investigation, reflecting a broader effort by the monarchy to win public trust.
The official statement read, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.” Charles added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.”
Amid the turmoil, the King even asked his brother to vacate the Royal Lodge at Windsor, and as part of those changes, he was initially relocated to Wood Farm for a while before moving to his new home, where he currently lives. It's worth noting that the last public appearance of the siblings together came in September last year, when they attended a requiem mass in London held in memory of the late Duchess of Kent. Since then, members of the York family have been absent from the majority of royal engagements and official gatherings.
Earlier this year, it was disclosed that during his ten-year tenure as the UK’s trade envoy, the disgraced prince may have shared some very sensitive and confidential information with Epstein. While he's currently facing allegations of misconduct in public office, what's more surprising is the apparent absence of clear records showing that he underwent any formal vetting process before being appointed to the position. As reported by PEOPLE, Business Minister Chris Bryant said, “We have found no evidence that a formal due diligence or vetting process was undertaken. There is also no evidence that this was considered."
