King Charles’ 3-Word Greeting to UK Press as He Lands Solo in Bermuda Ahead of a Packed Schedule
Charles' brief remark shed light on how the humor that resonated during his US engagements has carried into the current visit.
King Charles has arrived in Bermuda immediately after his widely watched state visit to the US. In many moments, his humor quietly took center stage, especially during the state dinner, and offered a more personal side to the monarch throughout official engagements. That same easygoing tone has followed him across the Atlantic to Bermuda as he has begun his three-day solo trip of the island without Queen Camilla. It was a significant shift from the joint appearance that largely defined the American leg of the trip.
The lighter touch was evident immediately upon Charles’ arrival. As reported by the Independent, during the Bermuda landing, he reached the end of the red carpet. That’s when the King pointed at the traveling UK media and said, “You made it,” before he got inside his waiting car. The brief remark shed light on how the humor that resonated during his US engagements has carried into the current visit. An otherwise former proceeding instantly got a candid appeal through his remark.
The moment came merely hours after Charles and Camilla were waved off from Washington by President Donald Trump after their state visit ended on a notable diplomatic development. Trump shortly announced he would remove Tariffs on Scottish whisky, claiming it was the royal guests’ intervention that prompted the decision. Then, Buckingham Palace also released a statement revealing that the King would be “raising a dram” to the President. Mark Kent, the chief executive of the Scotch Whisky Association, said “distillers could breathe a little easier,” given that nearly $5.4 million will be returned to the British economy per week, showcasing the significance of the move.
As the monarch arrived at LF Wade International airport at dusk on the US Government’s VIP Airbus, both the Royal Standard and the Bermuda flag flew. Governor Andrew Murdoch and Premier David Burt, along with his wife, Kristin, greeted him. The welcome was intentionally low-key. A small guard of honor was formed by the Royal Bermuda Regiment. Meanwhile, a more ceremonial reception featuring a 21-gun salute is scheduled for the next day.
From there, King’s Bermuda itinerary contains a mixture of environmental, community, and cultural engagements. He is gearing up to visit Trunk Island’s ‘Living Classroom’, which is an initiative whose aim is to teach youngsters about the island’s ecosystem. Then he will head to Hamilton’s City Hall to meet local leaders. He will also meet the Bermuda-born Muppet designer Michael Frith and his wife Kathryn Mullen, and watch the National Gombey Dance Troupe’s performance at the Royal Naval Dockyard. He will conclude his trip with a garden party at Government House, continuing a visit that blends royal duty with a visibly approachable tone.
